Job Description:

Are you a Mechanical Engineer with extensive static equipment experience looking for a new challenge? We have an exciting opportunity for you at our Fort McMurray operations!

As a vital member of our Engineering team, you'll be at the forefront of innovation, ensuring the safety and reliability of our production units. Your expertise will be crucial in maintaining and enhancing the performance of various static equipment classes (e.g., piping, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, furnaces, tanks, boilers, etc.).

Minimum Requirements:
  • Ten years of related engineering experience
  • A bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
  • Must be a Professional Engineer or eligible for membership with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA)
  • Background in static equipment inspection, maintenance, and design
  • Extensive knowledge of commonly used design and fabrication codes, as well as post-construction specifications for pressure vessels, furnaces, heat exchangers, and process and slurry piping
  • Experience using mechanical design tools for static equipment (such as PV Elite, CAESAR II, SagePlus, CodeCalc) to support design verification and Fitness for Service (FFS) assessment
  • Experience in equipment strategy development in a multidisciplinary team
  • A valid driver’s license
Key Accountabilities:
  • Provide general mechanical engineering support related to static equipment FFS assessment, repair specifications, re-rate assessment, failure investigation, purchase specifications, and equipment strategies support for site operating units
  • Produce engineering packages with varying scope and complexity, including repair packages, upgrade packages following MOC processes, purchase specifications, and FFS assessments
  • Support shutdown scope development
  • Suggest improvements to plant operation and reliability through innovative engineering and resolve root cause performance problems with static pressure equipment
  • Collaborate with process, maintenance, and technical personnel to resolve plant and system issues
  • Ensure code compliance and/or governing authority endorsement of designs
  • Mentor other engineers by reviewing and authenticating specifications and packages
  • Conduct root cause failure analysis for static equipment
Location and Other Key Details:
  • Work locations include Syncrude Mildred Lake, Syncrude Aurora, or Suncor Base Plant in Fort McMurray, Alberta
  • Standard 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with potential for extended hours based on business needs
  • Relocation to within 60 km of Fort McMurray is mandatory if residing outside the area; relocation support will be provided
  • Compensation is based on internal guidelines, experience, and scope of work
