What is your opportunity?

The Enterprise Chief Controls Office (ECCO) is a centralized first line of defense group with the goal of embedding a culture of risk ownership and operational excellence by elevating the control environment and driving consistency and quality of risk practices to minimize loss and regulatory sanction, drive cost efficiencies, and accelerate execution to enable growth.

The Enterprise Control Testing (ECT) team serves as RBC’s central control testing function. As the Enterprise central control testing team, ECT acts on behalf of the 1LOD (first line of defense) Control Owner and is responsible for performing control assurance activities in accordance with RBC’s Internal Control Management Policy and Standard (ICMP and ICMS).

As the Senior Manager, ECT Strategy, you will be a key member of the strategy team, responsible for the lifecycle of the Enterprise Control Testing Strategy. The strategy lifecycle will include the creation, execution, monitoring and storytelling/reporting, and maintenance of the strategy.

What will you do?
  • Provide input and insights in the creation of the ECT strategy that includes vision, key strategies/outcomes, enablers and metrics/Objectives and Key Results (OKRs)
  • Lead/support in the delivery of key ECT strategic initiatives, including developing the approach, creating and executing the plan, developing and tracking the relevant metrics, coordinating with stakeholders
  • Support the consolidation of control testing function, including role design, analyze control inventory data
  • Leverage external benchmarking to identify leading practices, including performing secondary research, interviews with experts, review external benchmarks/studies (e.g. control testing reviews/forums by consulting firms)
  • Lead quantitative/data analysis and distill insights/research into actionable strategies
  • Solve strategic problems/questions by developing an analytical approach, creating hypotheses, analyzing data and developing recommendations; translate complex analysis and recommendations into a cohesive story to drive buy‑in
  • Oversight on the strategic outcomes, including reporting on the progress through executive/board presentations
  • Continuous review/refresh of the strategy to ensure relevance and to enable RBC to maintain competitive advantage/sound operations
What do you need to succeed?
  • 5+ years financial services, strategy, risk, or related management consulting experience with a global and strategic perspective
  • Demonstrated business and financial acumen, analytical mindset, strategic development and execution skills
  • Strong research capabilities and ability to source, aggregate and distill complex data/information to create insights appropriate for different audiences
  • Experience building compelling presentations that are clear and have a logical flow
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Engineering or other related field
Nice-to-have
  • MBA, CPA, CIA, FRM, CFA or other related designations
  • Experience in operational risk management (first and/or second line of defense capacities)
  • Experience in the design and evaluation of internal controls
  • Knowledge and/or experience working across different platforms and/or functional units of a diversified financial services firm, including exposure to multiple geographies
