Why this role is important?

The Data Trust Office is an enablement-first function. We believe in embedding data and privacy into our products and services to build customer loyalty and trust, which ensures compliance by default. In this role you will be supporting the delivery of data and privacy advisory services, with a focus on enabling responsible AI usage across the various business areas, including Loblaw’s health businesses. This role reports to the Senior Director, Data & Privacy.

What You’ll Do:
  • Lead the development and implementation of a responsible AI framework that integrates into the existing data and privacy program and advisory processes.
  • Perform risk assessments with a primary focus on AI-related initiatives, including evaluating AI model risks, and provide recommendations regarding data and privacy controls.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to develop and implement technology solutions and ensure adherence to the responsible AI framework.
  • Drive a culture of data and privacy through training and awareness that promotes customer-centricity and building trust.
  • Manage third party data and privacy risk management activities, including reviewing and advising on agreements and statements of work, and conducting vendor risk assessments.
What you Bring:
  • Demonstrated ability to implement emerging technologies and enable business innovation by building and operationalizing programs related to privacy laws, data ethics, artificial intelligence, data governance and data protection in a responsible and ethical manner.
  • Data governance and/or privacy experience within a complex healthcare environment, and deep knowledge of Canadian health privacy laws. Experience in corporate retail or other direct-to-consumer industry is also an asset.
  • A self-starter who is proactive, takes initiative and consistently drives projects forward with minimal supervision.
  • Strong ability to grasp complex and ambiguous problems and distill them into clear, understandable terms and requirements.
  • Collaborative team player who can influence stakeholders and negotiate effectively to achieve win-win solutions.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement to independently manage challenges and know when to appropriately escalate issues for resolution.
  • Experience embedding privacy requirements through technical delivery programs, including through policy development, training and education and advocacy.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational and presentation skills, including the ability to present succinctly and effectively to varying levels of management.
  • Understanding of machine learning concepts, model lifecycle management, and data ethics – ideally experience working with data science or analytics teams.
  • Demonstrated familiarity of global AI regulatory trends.
  • Experience working in data governance or information security is an asset.
  • Post-secondary education.
  • Proven experience in applying privacy laws and principles.
  • International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) certification (i.e. CIPP/C, AIGP or equivalent certification) preferred.
