Opportunity

WSP is currently seeking a highly motivated Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our Ground Engineering and Materials Team based in Northern BC and Yukon. This position is available in the Prince George, Terrace and Fort St. John offices. The role will work closely with professionals and industry experts on large‑scale projects throughout British Columbia and Yukon Territory. WSP will support relocation and accommodation for candidates wishing to relocate.

What you can expect to do here
  • Collaborate with engineering staff on geotechnical consulting projects.
  • Share technical knowledge across geographical boundaries to foster innovative solutions.
  • Prepare geotechnical studies and engineering reports with recommendations for various projects based on studies and project work.
  • Provide geological engineering expertise for multi‑disciplinary projects such as highways, bridges, buildings, dams, industrial infrastructure, and tunneling.
  • Assist in developing and leading projects requiring investigation programs, prepare bidding documents, solicit bids, evaluate subcontractor submissions, and support project engineers.
  • Assess and evaluate geotechnical issues such as settlements, liquefaction potential, slope stabilization, interstitial overpressure development, preferential flow, frost heave, excavation, and backfilling procedures.
  • Support field operations by managing field programs that may include boreholes, in‑situ tests, piezocone soundings, reconnaissance trenches, and construction work such as soil embankment construction, subgrade compaction assessment, and geosynthetic installation.
  • Perform other related tasks as required.
What you’ll bring to WSP
  • Bachelor’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering or Civil Engineering with a Geotechnical emphasis from an accredited university.
  • Registered as a P.Eng. in Canada and eligible for registration with EGBC.
  • Relevant experience as a P.Eng. in a Canadian province or territory.
  • Minimum six (6) years of relevant consulting experience as a Geotechnical Engineer, Geomechanics Engineer, or related position.
  • Knowledge of standard geotechnical software such as GeoStudio (Slope/W, Seep/W), Rocscience, or similar suites.
  • Demonstrated initiative and self‑directed work ethic.
  • Strong track record of managing and completing projects on time and on budget.
  • Ability to conduct critical evaluation of geotechnical analysis outputs.
  • Valid Canadian driver’s licence.
Compensation

Salary range (British Columbia): $96,200 – $132,200. A Northern Living Allowance will be applied in addition to the base salary.

Final salary awarded may vary based on education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business needs. The range is subject to change for business purposes.
