Reporting to the Estimating Department Director, you will play a strategic role in the budget evaluation of major projects. Your expertise will enable you to structure robust financial proposals and guide the supplier and subcontractor selection process.
Your Main Responsibilities
- Conduct in-depth analysis of plans and specifications (architecture, structure, electromechanics) to identify work packages and prepare detailed descriptions.
- Perform accurate quantifications of the materials, labor, and equipment required.
- Develop comprehensive estimates incorporating unit costs, subcontractor prices, and overhead costs.
- Propose innovative solutions to optimize costs (value engineering).
- Plan procurement and construction schedules, including items with long lead times.
- Manage the bidding process: solicit subcontractors, analyze bids, and prepare comparative tables.
- Participate in contract negotiations and awards.
- Ensure the transfer of information to project management teams for an efficient start-up.
- Maintain and update an internal database on unit costs and work methods.
- Support the project team in budget monitoring, change order management, and contract compliance.
- Participate in technical and kick-off meetings to ensure consistency in estimates.
Desired Profile
- 5 to 10 years of experience in estimating for a general contractor (residential and commercial projects).
- Bachelor in Construction Engineering
- Strong skills in reading plans (architectural, structural, electromechanical, civil).
- Very good knowledge of construction processes and industry standards.
- Proficiency in calculation, drawing, and estimation tools (Excel, AutoCAD, Revit, Planswift, etc.).
- Ability to work methodically, rigorously, and with attention to detail.
- Analytical mind, strategic thinking, and excellent communication skills.
