Job description
Overview

Kinectrics is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to spearhead the software design and instrument controls for innovative isotope separation systems. The Engineer will be responsible for developing overall systems, operations planning, instrumentation interface & controls software, while coordinating with other engineering disciplines to optimize our designs.

Accountabilities: How you will make an impact
  • Plan, lead and/or conduct EC&I projects and provide direction to the development of conceptual/detailed equipment designs as they progress through a structured design process.
  • Provide a high level of expertise in one or more specific areas; including, control software, control instrumentation, and assessment/design/specification of equipment and components.
  • Perform condition and performance assessments of EC&I aspects of equipment. Develop life cycle plans, including inspection and test programs.
  • Perform engineering change design and analysis following established change control procedures.
  • Interface with vendors/construction/procurement partners and stakeholders throughout the lifecycle of the design project (i.e., from preliminary and conceptual engineering to detailed design, implementation, and close-out) to provide practical and effective solutions as per requirements.
  • Provide technical oversight and mentoring of more junior members of the engineering team.
  • Contribute to, and manage, control system development activities.
  • Provide field support to multi-disciplined plant design modifications, including provision of field engineering.
  • Understand and assess client problems and determine appropriate means of solution.
  • Conduct technical assessments and emergent troubleshooting/engineering to support projects and operating unit (capital) projects.
  • Interface effectively with other staff on multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Stay current with developments within their field of expertise.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What you need to succeed:

  • Bachelor’s or Graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Engineering Physics, and other related disciplines is required.
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in design engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of control system design and equipment including control computers, PID controllers, Digital Control System (DCS), Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) etc.
  • Programming languages including C/C++, C#, Labview, various PLC Technologies and vendor systems.
  • Knowledge of electrical engineering principles and design techniques
  • In depth knowledge and experience of use of appropriate codes and standards, as applied to conventional plants
  • Be familiar with rigorous engineering change control processes and application of QA programs
  • Have excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and have demonstrated a high commitment to quality
  • A Professional Engineer of Ontario (PEO), or eligible for PEO status, with a passion for engineering
  • Excellent time management skills and demonstrated capability to interface effectively with and gain the trust of customers and internal stakeholders.
