The Senior Accountant will be responsible for preparing and reviewing personal and corporate tax returns, completing Notice to Reader (NTR) financial statements, and providing general accounting support to small and medium-sized business clients. This role involves supervising junior staff, ensuring accuracy and compliance with Canadian tax laws, and delivering excellent client service in a professional, small-firm environment.

About the Opportunity
Responsibilities
  • Prepare and review T1 (personal) and T2 (corporate) income tax returns.
  • Prepare T3, T4, T5 and other related slips/returns as required.
  • Research and resolve client tax issues, ensuring compliance with CRA requirements.
  • Identify tax planning opportunities and make recommendations to clients.
  • Prepare and review Notice to Reader (Compilation) financial statements.
  • Perform bookkeeping and year-end working paper preparation, including adjusting journal entries and reconciliations.
  • Review trial balances, ledgers, and financial statements for accuracy and completeness.
  • Act as the main contact for assigned clients, providing timely and professional communication.
  • Advise clients on accounting, tax, and business matters.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Supervise, train, and mentor junior accountants and co-op students.
  • Review work prepared by junior staff and provide constructive feedback.
  • Maintain organized files in compliance with firm policies and professional standards.
  • Monitor job budgets, deadlines, and workflow to ensure efficient completion of engagements.
About You
  • CPA designation (or in final stages of completion).
  • 3–5+ years of experience in public accounting, preferably in a small to mid-sized firm.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian tax laws, NTR engagements, and financial reporting standards for private enterprises (ASPE).
  • Proficiency in accounting and tax software (e.g., CaseWare, TaxPrep / Profile, QuickBooks, Sage).
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple client files.
Salary

$90,000 / year
