About the Opportunity

Witset First Nation is looking for a full-time Senior Accountant based in Witset, BC.

Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Senior Accountant plays a central role in managing core financial functions such as payroll, budgeting, fund accounting, and reporting in accordance with PSAB standards.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to :

  • Managing books of account, reviewing coding, posting invoices, and completing bank reconciliations
  • Overseeing accurate and timely processing of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll
  • Mentoring and supporting the AP and Payroll Clerks with cross-training and development
  • Preparing monthly / quarterly financial statements aligned with PSAB and fund accounting principles
  • Collaborating with department managers to ensure financial compliance and policy adherence
  • Supporting grant applications and funding compliance requirements
  • Preparing for and participating in year-end audits, maintaining internal financial controls
  • Assisting in the preparation of annual budgets and conducting variance analysis
  • Enhancing financial systems and processes to improve internal controls and reporting
  • Providing financial guidance and training to staff on relevant procedures
  • Performing forensic bookkeeping and safeguarding financial records
  • Maintaining updated digital records and ensuring compliance with funding agreements
  • Other duties as assigned
About You

To qualify, you will need a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance , or a related field, and a minimum of 3 years’ experience in accounting, ideally in a municipal, First Nations, or public sector environment.

The following skills and experience will be strong attributes :

  • Proficiency in Sage 300 and Microsoft Excel
  • Understanding of PSAB standards, fund accounting, and municipal finance principles
  • Experience with budget development, grant management, and regulatory reporting
  • Familiarity with First Nations governance and funding structures
  • Strong verbal and written communication, analytical, and organizational skills
