These Secondary Occasional Teaching opportunities will be effective this school year (2025/2026). Successful candidates will be added to the Secondary Occasional Teacher Roster as spots become available throughout the school year. We encourage all Secondary Occasional Teachers to apply. Our current high-need areas include Business, Computer Science, Technological Studies, and French. Interviews are anticipated to be scheduled throughout the coming months.

Qualifications & Requirements
  • In order to be considered for Secondary Occasional Teaching, you must have a minimum of qualifications in both Intermediate and Senior. The current requirements include qualifications in Intermediate and Senior in two (2) subject areas (e.g. I/S - subject area #1 & I/S - subject area #2). Requirements may change based on system needs.
  • If you are Primary/Junior qualified only, please do not submit an application to Secondary Occasional teaching. We would encourage you to review and apply to the active job postings, including the Elementary Occasional Teaching job posting.
Additional Information
  • If you are a current YRDSB employee (permanent or temporary/term) and are successful through the OT selection process, you will be required to remain in your current position until the next approved natural break (Winter Break, March Break, End of Term One, End of Semester).
  • If you are not currently a member in Good Standing with the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) and/or your membership is not confirmed, your application may be considered but you would not be eligible to participate in the Selection Process or added to the Occasional Teacher Roster until membership is confirmed.
  • If you are applying to both Elementary and Secondary Occasional Teaching at YRDSB, you will only be eligible to be on one of the two Occasional Teaching Rosters.
  • In the application process, you will be prompted to provide references in the job posting screening section of the online application. We do not contact references prior to practicum/interview.
Other Notes
  • Examples Of Referees Could Include: Principal/Vice-Principal, Faculty Advisor/Coordinator, Host/Mentor Teacher, or a professional reference who can speak to your teaching practice.
  • For Candidates Applying To Teach French: Review board information regarding French programming and language assessment as applicable.
  • French Language Assessment (FLA) is part of the selection process for all teachers interested in teaching French as a Second Language (FSL).
