Position Summary

As a Sales Manager at Sonora Resort, you will play a pivotal role in driving guest satisfaction and revenue growth for one of Canada’s most exclusive luxury wilderness resorts. This role blends sales, client service, and relationship management from guiding prospective guests through high-value booking decisions to cultivating and growing partnerships with travel trade and corporate groups. Summary of Responsibilities
Client Services & Guest Experience
  • Provide seamless, efficient and optimized pre and post stay guest services designed to convert and retain guests.
  • Engage with qualified prospects and clients across multiple platforms (including phone, email, and messaging channels), providing timely, accurate, and consultative guidance designed to convert and grow business.
  • Prepare quotes for clients (using Excel and other software tools) and ensure correct rates are communicated to clients.
  • Provide detailed information about reservation requests to the reservations department.
  • Customize guest itineraries and coordinate reservation/trip details with operations.
  • Provide essential trip planning information to guests such as date, time and location of transportation to/from resort.
  • Coordinate with reservations, ensure room inventory is managed to optimize sales.
  • Learn and apply various software including property management software (PMS) and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tools to elevate the guest experience and optimize productivity.
Sales & Business Development
  • Develop, expand, and activate a portfolio of B2C and B2B relationships, leveraging personal industry networks and strategic outreach to drive incremental revenue growth.
  • Drive new business opportunities through proactive outreach to travel advisors, corporate planners and group buyers.
  • Cultivate and manage relationships with Travel trade partners, providing product updates and training to support sales growth
  • Own the end-to-end sales cycle for corporate and group business, from lead generation and proposal development through contract negotiation and execution.
  • Partner closely with the Marketing team to align outreach efforts, leverage social and campaign-driven warm leads, and refine sales materials that support business development initiatives.
  • Plan, coordinate, and host high-value site visits and familiarization experiences for travel advisors, event organizers, and key industry stakeholders.
  • Advise the leadership team on favorable terms of agreement with booking agents, helping to ensure win-win agreements are reached.
Industry Representation & Networking
  • Evaluate, prioritize and attend trade shows/exhibitions, with up to 20% travel required.
  • Prepare inspiring presentations to deliver at Trade shows/exhibitions.
  • Build Sonora’s presence and partnerships with Destination Marketing Organizations (DMOs), Destination Management Companies (DMCs), travel trade partners, meeting planners and other key industry stakeholder.
Payments
  • Communicate payment schedules clearly to clients, monitor payment reports for upcoming or overdue balances, and ensure all pre-stay payments are collected in accordance with resort terms and conditions.
  • Coordinate commission payments, using commission reports to identify the status of payments and work with Accounting & Reservations Coordinator to ensure commissions are paid on time.
  • Support Finance to ensure accurate sales reporting is maintained.
Sales Planning and Reporting
  • Contribute to the development of a strategic sales plan designed to meet annual revenue targets.
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activities and industry developments to adjust sales strategies as needed.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Must be fluent in English; additional languages considered an asset.
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada. Sonora Resort is unable to assist with obtaining work authorization.
  • Minimum 2-3 years of sales experience in the hotel industry; experience in luxury hotels is an asset.
  • An undergraduate degree, with an emphasis on business preferred.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficiency with MS Office Suite; experience with property management software (PMS) and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software an asset.
  • Sales Expertise: 2-3 years of proven sales experience in luxury hospitality or travel, with strong relationships in the travel trade and/or corporate incentive markets.
  • Travel Industry Knowledge: Solid understanding of the luxury travel market, including networks such as Virtuoso and Signature, with the ability to activate industry networks, identify emerging trends (e.g., experiential and sustainable travel), and translate insights into revenue-generating opportunities for Sonora Resort.
  • Customer Service Excellence: Strong commitment to delivering exceptional, high-touch service while balancing guest experience with commercial objectives throughout the pre- and post-stay journey.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the confidence to lead sales conversations, conduct outbound outreach, and articulate value propositions across multiple platforms (phone, email, messaging, and social channels).
  • Relationship Building: Proven ability to build, expand, and activate B2C and B2B relationships, with a focus on long-term value creation, account growth, and retention.
  • Detail Orientation: Highly detail-oriented, with the ability to accurately prepare quotes and group contracts while maintaining visibility across multiple active opportunities.
  • Organizational Skills: Exceptional organizational and pipeline-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple opportunities simultaneously and prioritize high-value prospects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Training and Development: Capability to train booking agents on Sonora services through in-person and online sessions.
  • Event Coordination: Experience coordinating and hosting site visits, trade shows, and industry events as strategic business development tools to generate and advance sales opportunities.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving abilities to navigate complex client needs, remove obstacles to conversion, and support deal progression.
  • Adaptability: Ability to adapt sales strategies in response to changing market conditions, client needs, and business priorities.
  • Collaboration: Ability to work collaboratively with various departments, including reservations, marketing, Events, and finance, to achieve common goals.
  • Time Management: Excellent time management skills, ensuring timely follow-up on payments and client communications.
  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to contribute to and execute strategic sales plans, identify growth opportunities, and support forecasting and budgeting efforts.
  • Travel Readiness: Willingness and ability to travel up to 20% for trade shows, exhibitions, and client meetings.
  • Integrity & Confidentiality: Trusted to manage sensitive and confidential company and client information with professionalism and discretion.
Sonora Lifestyle
  • Will be required to work independently based out of the Sonora Head Office in Richmond.
  • Sonora’s Hybrid Remote Work Policy applies; At this time, a minimum of 2-3 days per week required in office, subject to change.
  • Flexibility to support business demands including working weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Will be required to spend time onsite at Sonora for sales events and travel up to 20% of your time for Trade shows.
  • A positive and supportive team work environment, working as part of our Sales & Reservations Team.
  • Extensive computer work is involved, which includes typing and reading from a computer screen.
