About The Position

This position is an Appendix D (temporary) position for a period of 18 months starting January 2026. This position is a unionized position within the full‑time support staff bargaining unit. The pay for this position is $43.61/hour for 35 hours per week.

Reporting to the Bio‑industrial Process Research Manager and working closely with researchers, the candidate is responsible as the primary investigator on research projects focused on Energy and Biotech related experimentation in collaboration with research technicians, research students, industry partners and Research and Innovation Office staff.

Responsibilities
  • Lead collaborative research projects, design experiments, maintain sophisticated research equipment and conduct contract research testing.
  • Conduct research activities including literature review, data analysis, and experimentation; prepare technical reports and presentations for research partners.
  • Work with researchers to design and develop work plans and coordinate timelines for project completion.
  • Maintain equipment and instrumentation: scheduling regular maintenance, keeping usage logs, ordering consumables and auxiliary equipment (including PPE).
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, College policies, WHMIS, and chemical storage and handling processes.
  • Supervise research technicians and students, providing training on lab safety, fermentation, and analytical techniques.
  • Assist with procurement, budgeting, and project management within cost and time constraints.
  • Support applied research outreach and promotional activities.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 4‑Year Degree in Biochemistry or a related BioTech/BioEnergy field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience with proposal and grant applications, fermentation systems, downstream processing, and leading academic/industry research projects.
  • Experience with laboratory analytical instruments and familiar with laboratory experiments and procedures.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office and a commitment to overall health and safety.
  • Well‑developed analytical, problem‑solving, and evaluation skills.
