Job description

As a System Administrator within this dynamic environment, you will be the guardian of the program's underlying infrastructure. Your day to day responsibilities include operating, maintaining, and supporting the organization's server and network platforms to ensure high availability, peak performance, and robust security for mission critical systems. You will provide timely technical assistance to end users and internal teams, troubleshoot issues, apply patches and updates, and monitor system health — all while enabling the TSS team to focus on delivering secure, resilient solutions that safeguard global missions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Day to day Operations — Monitor, maintain, and support Windows/Linux servers, virtualization platforms, and storage systems supporting TSS.
  • Incident Management — Respond to tickets, diagnose issues, and provide timely resolutions while escalating complex problems to senior staff.
  • User Support — Serve as the primary point of contact for TSS end users, delivering exceptional service for access, connectivity, and application support.
  • Patch & Update Management — Apply OS patches, firmware upgrades, and security updates in accordance with corporate policies.
  • Backup & Recovery — Execute scheduled backups, verify data integrity, and perform restores as needed.
  • Documentation — Maintain accurate run books, SOPs, and knowledge base articles to streamline onboarding and knowledge sharing.
  • Security Compliance — Enforce baseline security controls, conduct vulnerability scans, and assist with audits (e.g., NIST, DISA STIG).
  • Continuous Improvement — Identify automation opportunities (PowerShell, Python, Ansible) to reduce manual effort and improve system reliability.

Basic Qualifications

Education: Associate's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field; or equivalent military/industry experience.

Experience: 0‑2 years of hands‑on system administration or technical support in a Windows/Linux environment.

Technical Skills: Windows Server, Linux, Hypervisors (VMware/Hyper V/etc.), authentication mechanisms, basic networking (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP), and scripting.

Security Clearance: Must have the ability to obtain TS/SCI Clearance to be considered for this position.

Desired Skills
  • Windows and Linux OS patching/security hardening in a classified environment
  • Experience with offline RHEL patch management
  • Experience with virtualization environments (e.g., VMWare) and storage array networks (e.g., NetApp, JBOD appliances)
  • Scripting experience — Python, Bash, PowerShell
  • Boot image creation
  • Cisco switch configuration
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a rapid paced, team environment
  • CompTIA Linux+ or Red Hat Certified Systems Administrator Certification
  • Ability to provide in‑depth monitoring, able to identify and fix issues utilizing various troubleshooting techniques and procedures
Certifications

CompTIA Security+ (current — will be required within 6 months of start).

  • Schedule for this Position: 4×10‑hour day, 3 days off per week
  • Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in California, Massachusetts, and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington or Washington DC is $54,900–$96,830. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate's final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only.
