The Registered Practical Nurse provides person-centered care, as a member of the interdisciplinary team in accordance with the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA), the College of Nurses of Ontario Standards of Practice and the Registered Practical Nurses’ Association of Ontario. Provides professional nursing care to residents and supervises care given by health care staff while ensuring quality person-focused health care is provided that is in accordance with Fixing Long Term Care Act standards and consistent with the Mission, Vision and Values of Providence Care Centre.

  • Current certificate of competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario (including Medication Administration).

Position Responsibilities
  • Performs the responsibilities of the position within the legislative and regulatory standards set out in the applicable Provincial and Municipal Acts and the College of nurses on Ontario Standards of Practice.
  • Ensures compliance with standards of nursing practice and best practice guidelines.
  • Collaborates with team members to provide care for all residents; assisting with regular assessments of resident needs through development, update, and evaluation of resident care plans, seeking appropriate direction as needed.
  • Participates in all aspects of resident care to ensure the physical, psychological, social, and spiritual needs of each resident/family are met, while continually ensuring the safety of residents.
  • Utilizes therapeutic communication by establishing a working relationship with resident/families and co-workers for the purpose of meeting the resident needs; ensuring respect, dignity, individuality of each resident; supports positive team building by collaborating with co-workers and using effective communication skills to promote positive working relationships and active problem solving within the care team.
  • As team leader, function as a liaison between all members of the care team and Registered Nurse, delivering and directing care that reflects the promotion of resident/family choice and acknowledges the resident strengths, limitations, and the need for safety of other residents/families and staff.
