Edmonton Zone Continuing Care provides services through five main program areas: Home Living, Supportive Living, Facility Living, Transition Services and Palliative Care. We are looking for an RN - Specialized in Wound, Ostomy & Continence to join our Facility Living team to provide professional support and consultative services to facility operators and residents in a continuing care facility. Working collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team, the Registered Nurse - Specializing in Wound, Ostomy & Continence (NSWOC) promotes community-based, evidence-informed practice development and delivery. The NSWOC engages in clinical guideline and policy development and supports professional practice, education, and continuing competence initiatives. The NSWOC evaluates clinical products and therapeutics and informs operational decision-making regarding best practice treatment strategies and resource allocation. The NSWOC provides clinical consultation services, client and caregiver education, collaborative care options and staff mentorship as they relate to continence, ostomy, wound and skin care, edema management, negative pressure, and other wound therapeutics. The NSWOC utilizes nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making to provide care and consult to individuals, families, and the interdisciplinary team. The NSWOC uses client-centered, and evidence-based health-care practice and process to work to their full scope of practice.

Description

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $39.58 - $54.16 per hour. Upon obtaining a full licence, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Required Qualifications

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. Additional Required Qualifications

Two years of recent nursing experience (within the last 5 years) or completion of a refresher program within 2 years including Wound and Ostomy Care. Completion of an accredited Wound & Ostomy course (Canadian Association of Intrastromal Therapy or equivalent) Proven Communication & Assessment skills to work cooperatively and effectively with the healthcare team members, clients, and their families in a fast-paced environment. Self-directed and the ability to work independently & use sound professional judgement. Excellent organizational skills –able to prioritize & efficiently organize many details in a timely manner. At the time of interview, you may be required to demonstrate your computer knowledge & proficiency by completing a hands-on assessment. You must demonstrate sufficient typing speed to meet workload demand and navigate through various computer programs including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), Visio, Outlook and Internet. Physically capable of performing nursing tasks which could include transfer of clients. The successful candidate will work independently in clients’ homes, which could include congregate settings, single family dwellings, condos and/or walk-up apartments. Therefore, the successful candidate must be able to work in different settings and environments (home environments and weather conditions), as well as be able to lift and carry medical bags, which weigh approximately 25-30 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications

Baccalaureate degree in nursing preferred; however, skills and experience relevant to nursing practice in community sector will be considered. Previous Community Care and/or geriatric experience. Experience with RAI Home Care assessment tool and Connect Care 2 years current nursing practice as a Continuing Care case manager. Palliative Care Experience. Students currently enrolled in the program with experience can also be considered.
