Job summary

A healthcare provider in Cobourg is seeking a part-time Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) to assist in their long-term care home. The RPN will be responsible for direct nursing care for residents and must meet specific qualifications including a Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario, strong communication skills, and a minimum of two years of experience in geriatric nursing. This is a permanent position in an expanding facility with a capacity of 150-180 beds.

Qualifications

  • 2 years minimum experience in geriatric nursing preferred.
  • Must be able to accept direction yet work with minimum supervision.
  • Previous proven good attendance record required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating resident care.
  • Provide direct nursing care including medication delivery and monitoring.
  • Communicate effectively with residents, families, and team members.

  • Must have successfully completed the RPN Medication Administration Course.

  • Must have demonstrated leadership skills.

  • Capable of coping with a physically demanding workload.
  • Current CPR Certificate.
Duties
  • Participates in the Nursing Process by assisting with assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating resident care, under the supervision of the Registered Nursing staff.
  • Provides direct nursing care for a group of residents, as defined by the standards of Nursing Practice, including all aspects of medication delivery, monitoring, storage and recording.
  • Communicates effectively and respectfully with residents, families, team members and other staff of the facility.
  • Provides guidance and acts as an effective member of the care team.
  • Reports pertinent information other members of the health care team.
  • Documents all aspects of resident care.
  • Other duties as assigned.
