A regional health authority in Edmonton is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to provide hemodialysis treatment at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary health care team, delivering comprehensive care to renal patients. This casual position requires an active CRNA registration and offers a competitive hourly wage ranging from $39.58 to $54.16 depending on qualifications. We have an exciting position in our program for an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) at the Royal Alexandra Hospital Satellite Hemodialysis Unit. The RN works to provide hemodialysis treatment to patients in collaboration with the multidisciplinary health care team. The RN delivers comprehensive patient and family‑centered care to renal patients. The RN practices within the philosophy and guidelines of the Alberta Kidney Care – North (AKCN) to provide leadership, critical thinking, clinical judgment, assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care to promote, maintain, or restore health, prevent illness, injury, and disability to the renal patient. The RN practices nursing care according to Hemodialysis Nursing Specialty Scope of Practice, regulating body, clinical policies, and nursing standards. The RN demonstrates a professional demeanor, pursues regular professional development opportunities, and maintains professional designation. The RN assumes unit leadership and charges responsibilities to support all levels of the multidisciplinary team as per Unit Manager Direction. May be required to work in the RAH In‑center if the need arises. Please Note: Candidates who are chosen for an interview will be contacted by email. Casual Employment: As a casual employee (on a call‑in basis), you will not have a regular schedule and there will be no minimum hours guaranteed for any week or month.
As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well‑being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $39.58 - $54.16 per hour. Upon obtaining a full licence, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS‑HCP) certification. If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, you must complete the following free courses: CRNA Medication Management (Chapters 1-4), available at https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/learning-and-development/learning-modules/ and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification, available at https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271.
Medical‑Surgical Nursing experience required. Demonstrate critical thinking, problem solving, and decision‑making abilities required. Basic computer skills required. Successful candidate must be able to lift 40 lbs. (18kg). Must be able to attend Hemodialysis training in Edmonton or Red Deer x 6 weeks full‑time training. Hemodialysis Training is held in Edmonton or Red Deer depending on classroom/instructor availability. The training is an intensive 4‑week full time schedule with an additional 2 weeks of full‑time buddy shifts. A passing mark of 80% on the final exam and satisfactory performance during clinical component is required to move on to 2 weeks full‑time buddy shifts. Upon successful completion of the orientation the RN will be able to proceed to the unit specific orientation – 2 weeks of buddy shifts as assigned by the Unit Manager. Required to attend 1‑day mandatory post orientation (3 Months Post) in person for Edmonton zone employees and via zoom for outside of the Edmonton Zone employees. Charge nurse skilled. Demonstrated time management, organizational skills, communication and interpersonal skills.
1‑to 2 years of current Hemodialysis experience. Charge nurse skilled. Care experiences an asset. Competent in Connect Care.
