Qualifications

Position

Salary Range: $39.07 - $56.00 per hour

Role: Registered Nurse – Medical Day Clinic / Oncology

As an integral member of the Medical Day Clinic team, the Registered Nurse is responsible for administering chemotherapy, biotherapy and supportive therapies to patients in the Medical Day Clinic and for completing comprehensive patient assessments in the oncology physician clinics. The physical demands may include prolonged sitting, standing, walking, bending, lifting, pushing and pulling. This position contributes to ensuring a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors.

Responsibilities
  • Administer chemotherapy, biotherapy and supportive therapies to oncology patients.
  • Complete comprehensive patient assessments in oncology physician clinics.
  • Contribute to maintaining a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors.
Qualifications
  • Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) as a Registered Nurse in good standing.
  • Diploma or Baccalaureate degree in Nursing.
  • Completion of the palliative care oncology course or evidence of continuous education in oncology/palliative care; certificate in Oncology Nursing or working toward it.
  • Canadian Nurses Association CON (C) certification or completion within three years.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning related to oncology/palliative/hematology nursing.
  • Current oncologic and palliative care nursing experience.
  • Knowledge and competence in management of oncologic and hematologic and other end-stage disease processes; managing complex pain and symptoms.
  • Psychosocial skills and experience providing supportive emotional care to palliative patients and families from diverse backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of oncologic emergencies and ability to act within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Certification and competency in IV therapy; care and management of Central Venous Access Devices including blood sampling.
  • Completion of either the De Sousa chemotherapy/biotherapy course or Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certification.
  • Familiarity with blood products and transfusion protocols.
  • Commitment to health and safety guidelines per regulatory bodies (NIOSH, CCO, CANO, etc.).
  • Ability to attend work on a regular basis.

Required COVID-19 vaccination as per Health Canada approval, subject to applicable accommodations.
