Job summary

A healthcare organization in Manitoba is seeking a Regional Coordinator - Patient Safety to lead safety initiatives across the region. Qualifications

Position Overview

Reporting to the Regional Lead - Quality, Planning & Performance, the Regional Coordinator - Patient Safety promotes a ‘Culture of Safety’ in the organization with an emphasis on process improvement, rather than casting blame. The incumbent works collaboratively with staff, physicians, patients/residents/clients/families, and other stakeholders to improve safe health care for all. Conducting prospective and retrospective analysis in collaboration with other multidisciplinary teams to provide recommendations/suggestions for healthcare improvements including monitoring, sharing and learning from safety events. The incumbent exercises the appropriate level of initiative and independent judgment in determining work priorities, work methods to be employed and action to be taken on unusual matters. The position functions in a manner that is consistent with the mission, vision and values; and the policies of Southern Health-Santé Sud.

Experience
  • Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in a clinical health care setting.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or a suitable combination of education and experience.
  • Post-graduate degree in a health-related field would be an asset.
  • Additional education in the area of Patient Safety would be an asset.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
  • Current or eligible registration with applicable professional licensing body.
Qualifications And Skills
  • Knowledge of critical incidents investigative methodologies would be an asset.

  • Given the cultural diversity of our region, the ability to respect and promote a culturally diverse population is required.
  • Proficiency of both official languages is essential for target and designated bilingual positions.
  • Demonstrated ability to respect confidentiality including paper, electronic formats and other mediums.
  • Good work and attendance record.
  • Requires a valid Class 5 driver’s license, an all-purpose insured vehicle and liability insurance of at least $1,000,000.00.
Physical Requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to meet the physical and mental demands of the job.
  • No hazardous or significantly unpleasant conditions.
  • May work occasionally evenings and weekends as necessary.
  • Will be required to travel within the region as the position duties may require.
