Overview
Project Manager – Based in Toronto, Canada. Local contract, permanent. Start date: ASAP 2022. PUR is recruiting a Project Manager to lead our technical operations in Canada and the USA. As part of the Projects team, you will report to the North American Regional Manager and will oversee technical aspects of our projects in Canada and the USA. The successful candidate will be the lead point of reference for technical operations in these countries and a key point of contact for our teams and partners on the ground.
Responsibilities
- Project development: Support the design, development and implementation of positive impact projects focused on Nature based Solutions with North American agricultural communities, evaluated for carbon, biodiversity and water performance; areas of focus include regenerative agriculture and agroforestry systems across diverse annual cropping and animal systems.
- Measurement and evaluation: Design, develop and implement protocols and frameworks to monitor project outcomes related to soil health, carbon, biodiversity and water; align with industry frameworks and accounting methodologies; train internal staff and local partners on measurement protocols for in-field implementation.
- Partnership management: Support the development of new and existing partnerships with supply chain intermediaries, farmer and commodity organizations, and other key actors that collectively support project execution with PUR.
- Industry framework research and training: Research and stay up to date on key industry frameworks applicable to the valuation and reporting of project impacts with a focus on the North America market; support training of internal teams on relevant frameworks (e.g., Value Change Initiative, Ecosystem Service Marketplace Consortium, Science Based Targets for Nature) in various formats (in-person, webinars, podcasts).
- Budgeting and contracting: Design, develop and manage budgets and contracts related to the technical aspects and execution of field activities.
- Team management: Effectively manage technicians, field partners, and staff for project execution in the field.
- External representation: Represent PUR within the community of field implementers and identify opportunities for new partnerships that contribute to PUR’s field operations.
- Other: Maintain a commitment to high-quality work and collaboration across teams and partners.
Qualifications
- Minimum 7 years of experience working with agricultural communities, ecosystem monitoring, or community project implementation.
- Master’s degree (MSc) in Environmental Sciences, Soil Science, Plant Sciences, Animal Science, Biology, or a related field.
- Experience in experimental design, field monitoring, measurement, reporting, and verification; knowledge and/or experience with key North American commodities (cereals, oilseeds, beef) and relevant industry frameworks.
- Demonstrated experience managing multi-stakeholder initiatives with communities, partners and funders.
- Ability to communicate scientific information to general audiences.
- Legal right to work and live in Canada and the ability to travel frequently in North America.
- Fluency in English. Spanish and/or French is a strong plus.
