We are currently searching for Recreation Assistants to join our team. We have one full-time and one casual position available.

Position Summary

Working under the direction of the Recreation Therapist, the Recreation Assistant provides support to the Recreation department in the planning, implementing, documenting, and evaluating of goal orientated recreation and leisure programs.

What You Bring to the Role:

  • Completion of an accredited Diploma in Recreation Therapy or Therapy Assistant Diploma or related Degree/ Diploma required.
  • Current registration with ATRA, CTRA, ThAAA or LACAA and a member in good standing required.
  • Minimum two (2) years’ in recreation/activity coordination working with seniors and residents with dementia/special needs in a similar setting is required.
  • Current CPR and First AID Certification required.
  • Strong written and verbal English skills to effectively communicate with all residents, visitors and at all levels within the organization required.
  • Understanding of various medical conditions such as dementia and other special needs, social history, or cultural values and how those impact residents’ leisure participation.
  • Understanding of Person-centered care
  • Demonstrates emotional intelligence (use of perception and understanding of the resident and families ‘emotions as well as one’s emotions to manage situations towards the goal of effective resident care).
  • Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Use a variety of facilitation techniques to implement goal-oriented interventions while taking into consideration resident’s strength and abilities.
  • Provide input for program development and takes part in scheduling of monthly calendars, outings, and special events.
  • Organize and prepare materials needed for upcoming programs.
  • Communicate feedback and observations from residents, family members, and interdisciplinary team members in regard to resident progress, leisure interests, programs development and evaluation and any other related areas.
  • Work Collaboratively with the Recreation team along with other interdisciplinary team members.
  • Complete related administrative work such as daily intervention statistics, resident chart documentation, and various other administration work.
  • Set up and facilitate virtual video calls between loved ones and residents
  • Other duties assigned.
