Recreation Assistant (Afternoon & Evening Coverage) – A full‑time position working lunch, afternoon, and evening shifts.

Job Summary

In coordination with the Recreation Supervisor, Recreation Team, and other staff, the incumbent oversees and promotes recreational programs across the center, ensuring adherence to established rules, schedules, and policies. Responsibilities include maintaining recreational equipment, facilities, and overall cleanliness, and collaborating with the Wellness Team for key events such as Orientation, Open House, and Health Promotion initiatives.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee intramural and recreational games and areas such as the gym, weight room, and bouldering room as requested/scheduled.
  • Promote athletic and recreation events by distributing and managing wellness event posters, ensuring timely updates and rotation to reflect current activities and programs.
  • Clean and maintain recreation facilities and equipment.
  • Maintain inventory of recreation equipment and other items that may be required.
  • Enforce and maintain gym safety measures, including gym and weight‑room waiver management.
  • Maintain daily communication logs and shift checklists.
  • Support external gym users by facilitating access to Recreation while providing a high level of customer service.
  • Assist Wellness Team facilitators in implementing health and wellness events, such as pop‑up health fairs and Orientation, supporting activities related to the 9 dimensions of wellness.
  • Act as part of a team engaged in contributing to and accomplishing the vision, mission, and goals of the College and supporting the aspirations and needs of learners and communities.
  • Promote a positive work atmosphere and communicate professionally, demonstrating mutual respect with students and colleagues.
  • Other related duties as assigned by Manager or designate.
Skills & Qualifications
  • High School completion or equivalent.
  • 6 months or more experience in recreation or a similar position.
  • Knowledge of a variety of sports and their rules.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Understanding of and ability to maintain a safe work and user environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Interest in pursuing a career in the recreation field (preferred).
Compensation and Location

Salary: $47,009 per year (Band B).
Location: Prince George, BC – CNC Campus, College of New Caledonia.
