Qualifications

Job description

As a Rail Fleet Coordinator, you will manage the movement, placement, and maintenance of our fleet of railcars to ensure efficient and timely delivery of products to customers. Your goal is to optimize railcar utilization, prevent surpluses and shortages at origins and destinations, and control costs through diligent expense management. Working closely with logistics and commercial teams, you will maintain fluid operations, monitor on‑hand and in‑transit railcars, and ensure high asset utilization across a variety of commodities.

Your Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute logistics plans to support refinery production and meet contractual obligations.
  • Collaborate with Refinery Planning, Supply & Trading, and Rail Logistics to plan rail fleet movements for various commodities.
  • Optimize railcar utilization by diverting and storing cars as needed for cost efficiency.
  • Monitor variables and risks affecting logistics plans and implement contingency strategies.
  • Resolve operational issues such as service challenges and schedule deviations promptly.
  • Maintain stakeholder relationships with internal teams, external partners, and North American railways.
  • Oversee railcar maintenance programs and budgets with leasing companies, repair shops, and rail lines.
  • Support propane fleet operations in partnership with Irving Energy.
  • Provide regular reporting on product movement status and facilitate sublease or trip lease arrangements.
  • Perform on‑call duties as required.
Your Skills
  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Knowledge of North American rail system.
  • Analytical skills for continuous improvement.
  • Strong communication skills to coordinate across functions.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel functions (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, IF).
Education And Experience
  • Post‑secondary education in business, logistics, or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of TDG (Transportation of Dangerous Goods) is a definite asset.
  • Familiarity with rail car management systems such as Transcore.
  • Minimum 5 years of business experience.
  • Minimum 3 years in a logistics role; rail logistics preferred.
  • Operations experience is a definite asset.
  • Professional designations such as CCLP or SCMP are an asset.
