Summary

Directly reporting to the Vice-President of Quality Assurance and Support Engineering, the Supplier Quality Assurance Director is accountable for the quality of the parts delivered by the supply chain for the landing gear division. The Director leads a team of Supplier Quality Assurance Representatives (SQA) and drives a supplier development strategy, with metrics, scorecards, dashboards, and regular reporting to executive leadership on supplier performance. He collaborates with procurement and quality organizations and site general managers to ensure appropriate quality levels from suppliers.

The Director provides strategic direction, leadership, and oversight of the Supplier Quality organization to ensure products and services are fit for purpose and meet Heroux-Devtek expectations. He develops processes, governance, and operations mechanisms to qualify, rate, and continually monitor suppliers to the highest standards. The role also ensures proper implementation and adherence to reinforced supplier control processes in the first year.

Main responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a multisite team of SQA personnel, ensuring dedication, development, and unity
  • Ensure budget adherence
  • Manage throughput of the SQA department in response to North American sites’ requests in a timely manner
  • Ensure the team meets defined service levels and KPIs; manage reporting to upper management and stakeholders through monthly dashboards
  • Foster a collaborative environment among SQA, QA, procurement, and site management
  • Develop, implement, and continually improve processes, systems, and tools for supplier quality performance management and issue escalation
  • Define supplier quality metrics and ensure proper supplier qualification, rating, and monitoring
  • Work with procurement on supplier identification, qualification, risk assessment, and selection to secure business
  • Manage operational performance (Logistics & Quality) of suppliers in coordination with procurement
  • Maintain approved supplier list with accreditations
  • Assist and support internal/customer audits and requests for each HDI site

Our ideal candidate

  • University degree in aerospace or mechanical engineering or equivalent relevant experience on complex aerospace products
  • Minimum ten (10) years of relevant aerospace industry experience with 3 to 5 years in management
  • Experience in change management
  • Experience managing multisite multicultural teams
  • Knowledge of aerospace quality requirements (AS9100, ISO9001, AS9102), customer and regulatory requirements; Nadcap experience is a plus
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and 3D models (GD&T)
  • Computer literate and proficient with MS Office
  • Experience with aerospace landing gear or similar complex products is an asset
  • Familiar with problem-solving techniques (FMEA, PPAP, 8D, 5 Why, fishbone); Lean certification is an asset
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and influencing skills; ability to work with customers/regulatory authorities
  • Objective-oriented with the ability to propose and implement innovative ideas within set boundaries
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to work independently and make timely decisions
  • English language proficiency required to supervise and work with English-speaking staff
