Description

RRC is seeking a talented PV Project Engineer to join our team and contribute to the future of U.S. energy production. This position is available at our Round Rock, TX, or Denver, CO offices in the U.S., or Toronto, ON, or Calgary, AB offices in Canada. A remote work option is also available.

The PV Project Engineer will provide design deliverables for commercial and utility‑scale solar electric systems. They will manage engineering tasks from site evaluation through to the completed design package, and support construction with technical assistance and quality inspections.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Design complete large‑scale commercial or utility‑scale PV systems, including mounting systems, electrical configurations, wire and conduit sizing according to NEC and voltage drop standards, and generate BOMs and detailed system production modeling.
  • Prepare technical drawings and specifications to ensure installation and operations conform to standards and customer requirements.
  • Develop customer deliverables such as concept module layouts, single line diagrams, equipment/material specifications, engineering validation, 3D renderings, and photo simulations.
  • Perform detailed energy production modeling calculations, string sizing, PV array to inverter matching, voltage drop, orientation, and inter‑row spacing analysis.
  • Perform electricity tariff analysis, electricity bill analysis, and load versus energy generation analysis.
  • Review specifications for the purchase of materials or equipment and identify appropriate equipment for PV systems, conducting technical qualification of vendors.
  • Operate computer‑assisted engineering or design software (AutoCAD, PVsyst, HelioScope, Google SketchUp, Microsoft Excel) to perform engineering tasks.
  • Conduct detailed site evaluations, including due diligence review, proposal development, and pre‑engineering support to Sales, Finance, and Construction.
  • Provide ongoing technical support to project construction teams during the construction phase of PV systems.
  • Perform site visits to inspect solar PV systems under construction, ensuring they are built according to plans and in compliance with codes and standards.
Job Requirements
  • BS degree in an engineering discipline, (i.e. BSEE, BSME, BSCE, BSChE) - Electrical Engineering degree is preferred
  • NABCEP PV Installation Professional certification a plus
  • 2-3 years minimum engineering experience
  • Experience in electrical, mechanical, structural, or civil engineering design is preferred
  • Prior experience in the solar industry highly desirable, specifically in commercial, utility and distributed generation.
  • Project management experience, including but not limited to, development, permitting, conceptual and detailed design, and engineering.
  • Strong organizational skills required with the ability to manage several design projects.
  • Understanding and working familiarity with current AutoCAD software version, as well as MS Office suite.
