In conjunction with the Pulmonary Rehab Team, is responsible for the daily operations of the exercise/education component of the Outpatient Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program along with administrative duties as assigned.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conducts the exercise component of the program with other team member(s).
- Monitors vital signs, adjusts oxygen as needed and determines when to defer or terminate a treatment session per protocol.
- Documents clearly and concisely in the patient medical record.
- Develops patient teaching materials and protocols for the Pulmonary Rehab Program.
- Maintains a strong and current knowledge of pulmonary rehabilitation information through lectures, seminars, independent reading, etc.
- Demonstrates the ability to assess situations, consider solutions, alternatives, and ramifications, and choose appropriate actions.
Qualifications - Internal
Required:
- A.S./B.S. in Respiratory Therapy.
- Registration (RRT) by the N.B.R.C.
- One year of clinical experience as a Respiratory Therapist.
- Licensed as a Respiratory Therapist by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
- Active Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) by the American Heart Association.
Preferred:
- B.S. in Respiratory Therapy.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) by the American Heart Association.
- Prior experience in Pulmonary Rehab.
Skills/Abilities/Competencies Required:
- Excellent interpersonal skills to interact with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare team members.
- Strong mechanical and analytical skills.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Ability to troubleshoot and respond to medical emergencies.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Primarily works in outpatient care areas and is exposed to various cleaning agents.
- Frequent exposure to communicable diseases.
