Job description

In conjunction with the Pulmonary Rehab Team, is responsible for the daily operations of the exercise/education component of the Outpatient Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program along with administrative duties as assigned.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Conducts the exercise component of the program with other team member(s).
  2. Monitors vital signs, adjusts oxygen as needed and determines when to defer or terminate a treatment session per protocol.
  3. Documents clearly and concisely in the patient medical record.
  4. Develops patient teaching materials and protocols for the Pulmonary Rehab Program.
  5. Maintains a strong and current knowledge of pulmonary rehabilitation information through lectures, seminars, independent reading, etc.
  6. Demonstrates the ability to assess situations, consider solutions, alternatives, and ramifications, and choose appropriate actions.
Qualifications - Internal

Required:

  • A.S./B.S. in Respiratory Therapy.
  • Registration (RRT) by the N.B.R.C.
  • One year of clinical experience as a Respiratory Therapist.
  • Licensed as a Respiratory Therapist by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • Active Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) by the American Heart Association.

Preferred:

  • B.S. in Respiratory Therapy.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) by the American Heart Association.
  • Prior experience in Pulmonary Rehab.
Skills/Abilities/Competencies Required:
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to interact with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare team members.
  • Strong mechanical and analytical skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and respond to medical emergencies.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Primarily works in outpatient care areas and is exposed to various cleaning agents.
  • Frequent exposure to communicable diseases.
HOSPITAL WIDE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Works within legal, regulatory, accreditation, and ethical standards relevant to the position and as established by BWH/MGB; follows safe practices; complies with policies and procedures; fulfills training requirements; reports non-compliance issues.
