Summary of Position

Lions Gate Underwriting (LGU) is a global MGA with teams throughout Canada, Australia and Latin America. LGU in Canada is continuing to grow and is looking for a driven Underwriter who will be responsible for underwriting, evaluating and negotiating new and renewal property and casualty business. You will work in a fast-paced and collaborative work environment and be part of an energetic group of professionals.

Responsibilities
  • Underwriter for product lines including but not limited to: Commercial Property, Residential Property (including short term rental), Vacant Commercial/Residential Property, Vacant Property with renovations to be completed, Vacant Land and more.
  • Underwrite and service a growing book of business, including risk selection, coverage negotiation and pricing adequacy on new & renewable business, all in accordance with designated underwriting authorities and company guidelines
  • Identify, analyze and develop sources of new business
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with brokers
  • Maintain market intelligence, trends and industry knowledge
  • Adhere to company and regulatory policies, procedures together with mandatory training requirements
Qualifications, Experience & Additional Capabilities
  • 2 years+ Commercial underwriting experience
  • Requirement: Insurance Agency Level 1 license mandatory and Level 2 license preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization and time management
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and follow-up on uncompleted tasks
  • In-depth understanding of policy wordings, forms and applicable coverages
  • Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced environment, working independently and collaboratively within a team
  • Strong phone skills including listening and documenting information
  • Experience with EPIC and Policy Works Insurance Systems is an asset
