Job summary

A leading shipbuilding company in Halifax is seeking a professional to focus on creating Job Packages in accordance with the Master Schedule. The ideal candidate will have a technical degree and relevant experience in planning within a naval shipbuilding environment. Responsibilities include utilizing contract documentation to ensure efficient execution of work, creating job packs, and maintaining tracking spreadsheets to assist production.

Qualifications

  • 2-5 years of Planning or trade work experience, preferably in a naval shipbuilding or repair environment.
  • Trade certificate, Red Seal is considered an asset.
  • Lean/Six sigma certifications would be considered assets.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize contract documentation and drawings to understand work scope, budget, and schedule.
  • Create quality job packs that provide the necessary info to facilitate an efficient execution of work.
  • Report on issues with material stock levels that do not align with the planning schedule.

Overview

This role focusses on creation of Job Packages, in accordance with the Master Schedule, to provide instructions and Budget to the Production department. The Job Packages will be created using drawings, data, instruction manuals, and shipbuilding experience to ensure they content clear instructions enabling Production to perform the work productively. Review of bids and implementation is a requirement for upcoming projects.

Qualifications
  • Post-secondary degree; preferably in technical, engineering, or related discipline.
  • 2-5 years of Planning or trade work experience, preferably in a naval shipbuilding or repair environment.
  • Trade certificate, Red Seal is considered an asset.
  • Experience using Primavera P6, MS Excel, Aveva, or AutoCAD would be considered an asset.
  • Thorough knowledge of naval repair methods considered an asset.
  • Lean/Six sigma White, Yellow, and Green Belts would be considered assets.
  • Ability to interpret trade related drawings.
Responsibilities
  • Utilize contract documentation and drawings to understand work scope, budget, and schedule.
  • Create quality job packs that provide the necessary info to facilitate an efficient execution of work.
  • Ensure activity breakdown, sequence logic, and trade resource budgets for a given scope of work is accurately represented in P6 and is consistent with the schedule WBS.
  • Report on issues with material stock levels which do not align with the planning schedule and communicate discrepancies/required actions to the Scheduling Team Lead, Planning team, Project Manager, and Supply Chain Lead.
  • Provide trade specific support to the Planning and Production teams.
  • Maintain tracking spreadsheets to assist Production and the scheduling of work.
