Job Overview

Reporting: Operations Manager

Dimensions Of Position
  • Ensure a personal and team goal of 100% Safety Audit Participation rate
  • Reduce reject levels to less than 1.8% and increase operational efficiencies to 85%
  • Drive down Customer Corrective Action Requests (CCARs)
  • Achieve a 96% product On-Time Availability rate
Key Result Areas
  • Understand, execute, and ensure consistent compliance with all company rules, policies, and practices, and take appropriate corrective action when warranted.
  • Responsible for team member job performance and recommending corrective action, if needed, and maintain positive team member relations.
  • Responsible for leading and maintaining the manufacturing and production system of assigned area, accomplishing department goals, and keeping on task with targets and implementation schedule.
  • Utilize Vesuvius techniques to standardize current/new processes and methods, reduce process variation, identify waste, and methodically eliminate waste.
  • Production requirements based on current work situation and production schedules.
  • Direct floor activities through consistent application of Vesuvius practices to ensure all aspects of manufacturing are effective and correct sub‑standard situations.
  • Maintain efficient, stable, and continuous operations.
  • Monitor the flow of parts, materials, productivity, and quality including inventory levels.
  • Ensure quality goals and standards are met and know how to use the quality feedback loops and systems and escalation procedures. Confirm that team members use the quality systems correctly.
  • Evaluate and analyze problems involving machinery and equipment and coordinate repair of tools and machinery. Participate in frequent evaluation of machines, tools, equipment, etc.
  • Lead continuous improvement activity for VISO area.
  • Maintain, monitor, and update department and Key Performance Indicator (KPI) board and graphs, daily, and initiate continuous improvement activities.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements, and company safety policies and procedures.
  • Lead, perform, and/or participate in ergonomic exercises, 5S housekeeping, accident investigation, and safety audits and related activities.
  • Maintain knowledge of procedures concerning Hazardous Waste, Spill Response, and Plant Security.
  • Monitor safety and health of team members to ensure their well‑being.
  • Maintain, plan, and prepare department instruction manuals.
  • Collect, record, and analyze information while maintaining documentation regarding the activities in the assigned area as defined by company policy, procedure, or practice.
  • Maintain specified records, files and logs of department/shift activities such as production, production problems, parts shortages, scrap, quality, maintenance, etc. (manual and computer) as required. Perform other various administrative duties.
  • Ensures that VISO plant is increasing Vesuvius Standard Compliance.
  • Assist with VISO Variable Overhead and Direct Labor Spend Management to stay within budget.
  • Work directly with VISO Scheduler to ensure raw material management system.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned, including but not limited to employee performance management.
  • Maintain internal and external interactions for proper information exchange and the resolution of issues.
Qualifications And Experience
  • Minimum 5 years of supervision experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum AA degree business, preferred 4‑year degree in engineering or management.
  • Managing a large group of hourly employees with varying background.
  • Proficient at facilitating small task teams.
  • Hiring/terminations/discipline.
Skills And Knowledge
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with all levels within organization.
  • Excellent problem solving and decision‑making skills based on objective data available.
  • Must have a working knowledge of OHSA regulations.
  • Must be able to handle more than one assignment at a time and meet inventory goals without jeopardizing production.
