What you'll do

Ready to design the tools that millions of Canadians reach for in their garages, sheds, and gardens? We're looking for a creative Industrial Designer to join our high-energy Seasonal & Garden team, where your designs directly impact how people tackle their outdoor projects, from weekend warriors to professional landscapers.

You'll be the creative force behind an incredibly diverse product portfolio spanning our powerhouse brands - Mastercraft, Yardworks, Woods, PWR POD, and Golfgreen. One day you might 3D print models to refine the ergonomics of a 48V chainsaw, the next you could be reimagining condo gardening solutions by mapping user journeys and identifying pain points, or diving deep into Canadian Tire sales data to uncover opportunities for next-generation snow shovels that give us a competitive edge. This isn't your typical design role - you'll combine sales analytics with user testing to validate designs, learn from cross-functional departments, and collaborate with overseas manufacturing partners to bring your visions to life. You'll develop into a master of consumer product design and retail strategy.

Responsibilities include:

  • Design across diverse product categories including power tools (48V/20V chainsaws, snow blowers, lawn mowers), hand tools (rakes, pruners, weeders), seasonal products (snow removal, pool accessories, gardening gloves), and garden systems (trellises, planters, grow lights).
  • Lead design direction within the assortment, coordinating with engineers to bring visions to life.
  • Maintain variety by leading multiple products and aiming to drive millions of annual revenue dollars of product value.
  • Collaborate with a team that evolves with new processes and ways of working, embracing creative approaches.
Design & Innovate
  • Create compelling, user-centered products using Adobe Creative Suite while identifying customer pain points and user journey opportunities to drive meaningful product improvements.
  • Make data-driven decisions by analyzing sales performance and market trends to guide product strategy, including research into competitors.
  • Lead cross-functionally with Engineering, QA, Packaging, Program Management, Legal, and international vendors.
  • Partner with the business to present to stakeholders, manage project budgets, and balance design vision with commercial realities.
  • Own products end-to-end from initial concept through manufacturing launch.
Growth & Impact
  • Gain exposure across our entire business ecosystem with experience in cost management, vendor relations, regulatory compliance, and market positioning while building a product portfolio sold across Canada's largest retail network.
  • Annual education credits of $2,000 for courses, certifications, or training to advance your career.
What you bring
  • Undergraduate degree in Design, Engineering, Product Development, or Manufacturing
  • 2–7 years of experience designing consumer hardgoods (tools, appliances, automotive parts, toys, or outdoor equipment preferred)
  • Comfort in hands-on manufacturing and testing environments
  • Fluency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), Keyshot, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Proven experience with human-centered design and design research methodologies
  • Understanding of basic hardgoods production processes and materials
  • Experience presenting design concepts to cross-functional teams and stakeholders
  • Ability to translate business requirements into clear design specifications
  • Proven ability to work with minimal supervision while delivering quality results
  • Action-oriented mindset focused on end-user needs and market demands
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented with multiple projects and varying teams
  • Working knowledge of SolidWorks for 3D modeling
  • Experience using garden tools, power equipment, or seasonal products
  • 3D printing and physical modeling capabilities
  • Power BI experience for sales performance and market trend analysis
  • G2 license and vehicle access for site visits and vendor meetings
