Hybrid Environment – 4 days in office in Calgary, 1 day remote.

ENTRUST Canada is currently seeking a Principal Civil Engineer to join our team in Calgary to support the substation and transmission line engineering business units. We offer a dynamic work environment with a highly experienced technical team where you will be offered guidance and hands‑on training and continuously be challenged in all aspects of the engineering and design process.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical oversight and leadership to the civil/structural design team.
  • Support substation physical layout engineering, including earthworks, stormwater management structures, and foundations.
  • Support transmission line engineering with complex structures and foundations.
  • Manage and lead engineering‑only projects, ensuring budget and schedule adherence.
  • Review and approve designs, perform quality checks, and complete complex technical designs.
  • Forecast workload and assist in resourcing efforts.
  • Track engineering progress and provide weekly updates to senior management.
  • Train new hires and mentor junior staff.
  • Maintain deep knowledge of client and industry standards.
  • Act as technical SME for civil/structural sub‑disciplines within the broader ENTRUST team.
  • Develop technical specifications for civil and structural construction tenders, evaluate bids, and provide recommendations.
  • Develop and maintain industry relationships with vendors including engineering sub‑contractors.
  • Author technical content and provide estimating support for proposal submissions.
  • Complete technical studies and prepare reports.
  • Act as SME to support permitting and regulatory efforts.
  • Maintain strong client relationships and contribute to business development strategy.
  • Identify new clients and participate in marketing activities.
  • Promote safety in design principles.
  • Travel as needed for site visits and construction support.
Required Qualifications
  • Broad depth of technical knowledge in civil and structural components for high‑voltage facilities.
  • 12 years of work experience.
  • BS in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Registered P. Eng. and an active member of APEGA.
  • Experience in the electric utility industry.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 12 years of experience working in utility substations and transmission lines.
  • Previous experience managing a design team.
