Plant Manager, Blacks Harbour
Role
We are seeking a driven and ambitious Plant Manager to join our team. The successful candidate will be a results-oriented, self-motivated individual who thrives in a fast-paced, demanding Food Industry environment and can develop positive working relationships, adapt to frequent change, and lead with a proven track record in continuous improvement and leadership. This position reports to the Sr. Director of Operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all areas of canned sardine production to ensure products are on schedule, at the lowest costs, and of the highest quality.
- Provide strategic and tactical direction across departments supporting plant production.
- Lead and engage teams to drive performance, continuous improvement, and a high-performance culture.
- Establish safety, quality, and regulatory compliance as top priorities and model a culture of safety at all levels.
- Develop budgets and strategic plans (annual and long-term) for the cannery; identify asset needs and execute plans to ensure reliable plant performance.
- Evaluate technologies to improve quality, consistency, and food safety.
- Maintain equipment readiness through maintenance programs and evaluation of new equipment and techniques.
- Ensure adherence to applicable rules and regulations and manage operational risks.
- Align operations with the company’s goals related to safety, food quality, cost savings, margin improvement, working capital, and growth.
- Direct staff in budgeting and setting business objectives; manage financial controls and KPIs to meet or exceed financial commitments without sacrificing quality.
- Promote world-class manufacturing practices and LEAN principles; foster collaboration across management levels and with customers.
- Hire, coach, and evaluate staff while modeling the company’s culture and values.
- Drive operational excellence and continuous improvement initiatives; participate in New Product Development to support new products and set quality standards.
What you bring to the team
- Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, or science.
- 10+ years of relevant management experience is an asset.
- 5+ years in a significant leadership role in a plant is required.
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex performance improvement initiatives.
- Experience with Lean and Six Sigma initiatives is preferred.
- Ability to train, teach, motivate, and develop others; working knowledge of High-Performance Work Systems.
- Automation or process improvement experience is a plus; capital project experience is desired.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills; experience with manufacturing-based technology and processes.
