Job summary

A leading shipbuilding company located in Halifax is seeking a Test and Completions Planner to join their dynamic team. This role involves interpreting various documentation to support project scopes and developing job packages for efficient execution. Candidates should possess a post-secondary degree in a relevant field and have 2-4 years of experience in planning or trade in a naval environment. Knowledge of Primavera P6 and other technical tools is also beneficial. The position requires full-time in-office presence at the Halifax Shipyard.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Are you a master of coordination with a sharp eye for detail and a passion for seeing complex projects come to life? Join our team as a Test and Completions Planner, where you'll play a pivotal role in driving shipbuilding success from planning to delivery.

This role has the possibility to work in the following areas:

  • Completions Outfit Planning - ensuring all components are ready for final assembly.
  • Tank and Hydro Testing - scheduling critical system verifications.
  • Subcontractor Integration - aligning external partners with internal timelines.
  • Electrical & Mechanical System Integration - syncing complex systems into the build.
  • Test & Trials Scheduling - planning for performance validation and sea trials.
  • Compartment Completion - coordinating final outfitting and readiness checks.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Translate Plans into Action: Interpret contract documentation, bills of materials, technical drawings, and 3D models to fully understand the scope, budget, and schedule of assigned work.
  • Build Smart Job Packs & Schedules: Develop detailed job packages and schedules that equip production teams with everything they need for efficient execution, timely material delivery, and milestone achievement.
  • Optimize Workflow in P6: Ensure activity breakdowns, logical sequencing, and trade resource budgets are accurately represented in Primavera P6 and aligned with the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS).
  • Monitor Materials & Flag Issues: Track material stock levels and identify discrepancies with the planning schedule. Communicate required actions to Scheduling, Programs and Supply Chain teams to keep progress on track.
  • Support the Trades: Provide tailored planning support to trade teams, ensuring alignment between planning and production needs.
  • Drive Readiness & Results: Collaborate with Production and Test & Trials teams by generating reports, tracking metrics, and leading Pre-Build and In-Build reviews to ensure readiness and smooth execution.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma; preferably in technical, engineering, or related discipline.
  • 2-4 years of planning or trade work experience, preferably in a naval shipbuilding or repair environment.
  • Trade Certificate, Red Seal is considered an asset.
  • Experience using Primavera P6, MS Excel, Aveva or AutoCAD would be considered an asset.
  • Thorough knowledge of naval repair methods is considered an asset.
  • Lean/Six sigma White, Yellow and Green Belts would be considered assets.
  • Ability to interpret trade-related drawings.

Due to the nature of work Irving Shipbuilding does, all successful applicants must meet requirements for the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

Please note this position requires a full-time, in-office presence at the Halifax Shipyard.
