Overview

Job Title: Photo Interpreter

KBM is an independently-owned natural resources consulting firm offering a range of services to clients in both the private and public sectors. In 2011, KBM opened a satellite office in Prince Albert, SK and in 2024 we opened two additional office locations in Yellowknife, NWT and Fredericton, NB. KBM operates three tightly integrated business units: KBM Aviation, KBM Geomatics and KBM Field Services in addition to operating KBM Outdoors (and outdoor equipment and supplies retail store). The primary focus of KBM stereo photo interpreters is assessing forest regeneration and conducting forest inventories using KBM Aviation collected stereo photos. KBM is currently seeking a stereo photo interpreter with proven technical skills to join our team. The ideal candidate would have field experience and a willingness to occasionally support field work programs. While candidates with a strong background in forest resource inventory are preferred, specific job training will be provided for the successful candidate.

  • Assess forest regeneration and conduct forest inventories using KBM Aviation collected stereo photos.
  • Occasionally support field work programs as needed.
Qualifications

Required Skills

  • Background in Forestry, Natural Resources, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong organization skills.

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with DATEM Summit Evolution
  • Stereo photo interpretation certification
  • Familiarity with tablet-based data collection applications (e.g., ESRI Survey123 or Field Maps)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Demonstrated experience using GNSS systems for navigation and data collection.
  • Proficient use of ESRI suite products (ArcPro, ArcMap, AGOL, etc.).
  • Demonstrated experience working in remote environments for extended periods of time.
  • Demonstrated experience working outdoors.
Location

This position can be based out of any of our four office locations (Thunder Bay, ON; Prince Albert, SK; Yellowknife, NWT; or Fredericton, NB).

Education and Experience
  • Degree, diploma, or currently enrolled in Forestry, Natural Resources, Environmental Science, or related discipline.
  • Previous work experience in precision forest data collection or other related disciplines.
