Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Pharmacy Manager and/or Pharmacy Supervisor, the pharmacist performs all duties necessary to support the efficient daily clinical operations of the pharmacy. This includes delivering high-quality products and services to patients and serving as a drug information resource for internal stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and local laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and accrediting body standards.
  • Practice pharmacy to the full professional scope.
  • Obtain, interpret, and evaluate physician medication orders for therapeutic appropriateness, cost-effectiveness, accuracy, and completeness.
  • Provide technical and clinical information to patients, nurses, and physicians regarding drug contents, usage, therapeutic actions, adverse reactions, and interactions.
  • Participate in clinical activities with nurses and physicians as required.
  • Collaborate and delegate appropriately to pharmacy personnel, patient support programs, scheduling teams, and nursing teams.
  • Communicate with internal stakeholders to ensure seamless, collaborative patient care.
  • Monitor patients on treatment through routine follow-ups and document findings, collaborating with stakeholders as needed.
  • Initiate, review, and update documentation in accordance with Bayshore policies and procedures.
  • Follow procedures for drug and supply procurement, maintaining accurate inventory levels and preferred product selection, including narcotics and controlled substances.
  • Ensure medication quality is maintained throughout the pharmacy workflow up to patient receipt.
  • Report adverse events per policy.
  • Maintain all legally required records accurately.
  • Assist in training and orientation of new employees.
  • Perform and document compounding checks and double checks per policy.
  • Prepare and/or check infusion supply orders and equipment programming (e.g., infusion pumps).
  • Prepare and/or check compounding sheets for accuracy.
  • Adhere to stability, compatibility guidelines, and quality control procedures.
  • Perform accurate computer order-entry, labeling, and dispensing in accordance with College of Pharmacists regulations.
  • Participate in performance improvement activities, educational programs, and departmental/branch meetings.
  • Understand full pharmacy operations and perform other duties as assigned.

Experience

  • Experience within a specialty pharmacy is considered an asset.

Education and Training

  • Bachelor’s Degree (BSc) in Pharmacy or a PharmD from an accredited college or university.
  • Licensed and in good standing with the Provincial College of Pharmacists to provide direct patient care.
  • Injection training (asset).
  • CPR certification (asset).

Physical Demands

  • May be required to lift 25–50 lbs.
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, and sit.
  • Vision requirements include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
