A family support organization in Canada is seeking a Personal Assistant to provide care and support for a child with profound learning difficulties. The role involves assisting with daily tasks, promoting independence, and managing household activities. Candidates should be honest, reliable, and willing to work flexibly. This position will require a satisfactory DBS disclosure and offers specific working hours on weekends.
I am the employer and mother to my son who has been allocated a direct payment to support him with all day to day tasks, personal care, and assisting him on social activities outside of the home, managing the household. My son resides at home with me. His diagnosis is profound learning difficulties, as he functions at the age of around 3 years old. He has a rare chromosome disorder which affects his mobility; one leg is shorter than the other, so he has mobility issues requiring an electric wheelchair when out and about. He can get around the house using the furniture or with the help of those caring for him to assist him to balance as he maneuvers. His electric wheelchair is controlled by those who support him in the community. The staff team will be required to maintain all areas that the staff and my son use within the home. My son is sociable and enjoys a range of activities within the home such as completing jigsaws, playing with building blocks, listening to music, watching TV and using his iPad. He particularly loves being outdoors and enjoys parks, going to the seaside, and venturing further afield to Saltburn by the Sea or Northumberland, exploring new places and seeing new things. When on outings all support is 2 to 1 staffing due to his needs and vulnerability. We are seeking a PA to join our small established team in providing the care and support required to maximise his day to day life.
