The Opportunity

We're seeking an experienced leader to own and drive our payroll function for our 1,200 employees across Canada and the USA. As a Payroll Manager, you will be responsible for managing the entire payroll function, supervising a team of payroll specialists, and implementing process improvements to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant payroll operations. Your Daily Adventures
  • Lead a high-performing team of payroll & benefits specialists, driving collaboration and efficiency to deliver exceptional results
  • Own the payroll and benefits processing from start to finish, ensuring seamless execution, compliance, and accuracy for our 1,200 employees across Canada and the USA (hourly and salaried)
  • Partner with cross-functional teams, including HR, Finance, and Legal, to drive alignment and inform business decisions with data-driven insights
  • Oversee the administration of employee benefits programs, including enrollments, terminations, billing reconciliation, and compliance with plan rules and regulations
  • Drive continuous improvement, leveraging technology and process enhancements to optimize payroll operations and mitigate risks
  • Streamline the time and attendance processes and optimizing workflows to drive efficiency and productivity
  • Navigate the complex landscape of payroll and benefits regarding federal, state, provincial, and local regulations, ensuring seamless compliance and staying ahead of the curve on evolving labor laws and ensuring they are implemented in UKG in a timely manner
  • Achieve and maintain a payroll accuracy rate of 99.9% or higher, with no major audit findings
  • Resolve complex and escalated employee inquiries regarding payroll and benefits, including retroactive pay and leave management
  • Support the accounting and FP&A teams in clarifying any payroll related variances
  • Track and analyze key metrics and provide leadership with actionable insights and recommendations
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to varied audiences such as employees, HR team and the executive team
  • Lead the preparation and completion of year-end reconciliations, tax filings, and other compliance reporting
Your Toolkit
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field, with a minimum of 10 years of payroll experience, including at least 2 years in a leadership role
  • Proven expertise in multi-jurisdictional payroll in Canada and the USA, with advanced proficiency in payroll & HCM systems (UKG a requirement) and retail industry experience highly desirable
  • Fully bilingual (English-French) with excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to work collaboratively cross functionally

  • Strong organizational and planning skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage payroll calendars, checklists, and team workflows
  • Proactive and analytical mindset, with expertise in process improvement, problem-solving, and attention to detail to resolve payroll discrepancies and implement controls
  • Collaborative team player with a results-driven approach, able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and drive payroll operations forward with a focus on accuracy, efficiency, and customer satisfaction
