Open Farm is growing, and we are seeking an ambitious Payroll and Benefits Specialist to join our team. Reporting to the Director of Finance, this role will manage end-to-end payroll across Canada, the US, Asia, the UK, and the EU. Key responsibilities include year-end reporting, benefits administration, tax compliance, and supporting ad hoc projects.

This role is hybrid based in downtown Toronto, requiring 2-3 days in-person work weekly.

Key Responsibilities
  • Payroll Administration: liaise with third-party payroll providers, verify and reconcile payroll components, manage payroll adjustments, ensure compliance with tax regulations, and address discrepancies.
  • Benefits Administration: administer North American benefit plans, manage the US 401K plan, and respond to employee inquiries.
  • HRIS Management: maintain employee records, generate reports, implement quality assurance, and provide employee training.
  • Compliance & Audit: stay current on labor laws, conduct audits, and ensure adherence to policies and legal requirements.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: partner with People Operations and Finance, support broader initiatives.
  • General Support: support accounting duties, perform administrative tasks.
Ideal Candidate
  • 3-5 years of payroll experience in Canada and the US, with international payroll experience.
  • Completed the National Payroll Institute Certification (PCP). Degree in Accounting or Finance is a plus.
  • Experience with HRIS systems (e.g., BambooHR) and ADP is an asset.
  • Strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, responsible, proactive, and able to handle high-stress situations.
