With the primary site at the Royal Alex Hospital and additional sites at the University of Alberta Hospital and the Cross Cancer Institute, your opportunity to provide high quality patient care will cover an exciting variety of duties in Anatomic Pathology. Duties include but are not limited to: grossing all complexities of specimens, teaching residents, medical students, graduate students, and operational students and staff, performing autopsies, performing frozen sections, and contributing to quality control/improvement projects. As a tertiary care center, and as the major catchment site for many complex surgeries in Western Canada, Edmonton receives a diverse and highly interesting suite of surgical pathology specimens. Our PAs regularly have the chance to learn and expand their knowledge in Anatomic Pathology, participate in PA rounds, and pass on their knowledge with various teaching opportunities.
As a Pathologists' Assistant I, you will perform gross examination (describe, dissect and document) specimens from biopsy and surgical procedures, selecting sections for processing. You will work in close collaboration with and under the supervision of pathologist medical staff in all matters relating to tissue examination, dissection, and staff/resident training and evaluation. You will assist Pathologists or Residents in the performance of Hospital-ordered autopsies, including receiving and preparing remains.
Master's Degree of Pathologists' Assistant or equivalent combination of education and experience recognized by the Canadian Association of Pathologists for Canadian Certification Council of Pathologists' Assistant (CCCPA) certification. Active or eligible for certification with the Canadian Certification Council of Pathologists' Assistants (CCCPA).
Recent and relevant experience grossing specimens of all complexities.
Experience with Epic – Beaker, AP Modules. Experience with DMO or other voice recognition dictating software. Experience teaching learners to gross.
