Job summary

About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Laboratory Manager, the certified Pathologist Assistant (PA) is a health professional who possesses the knowledge, technical abilities, and problem‑solving skills to perform Gross Room and Autopsy activities following procedures, processes, protocols, and policies under the direction of the pathologist and laboratory management team. The PA assists the pathologist, working in a leadership role, by providing expertise in the initial assessment of surgically removed tissues, evaluating gross pathologic features used to assist in diagnosis. The PA provides expertise and support to Medical Laboratory Technologists (MLT) who are performing grossing. The PA may support the pathologist by performing autopsy prosection; procuring appropriate tissues and organs, dissecting tissues and submitting the required tissue for pathological diagnosis.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Certified as a Pathology Assistant by the Canadian Certification Council of Pathologists’ Assistants (CCCPA) or by the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC) required or meets the requirements to achieve certification
  • Graduate of an approved MSc Pathologist Assistant program preferred
  • Experience with Cerner LIS preferred
  • Experience with Dragon, an asset
  • Previous background in anatomy, physiology, histology, pathology and medical terminology
  • Must have demonstrated customer service skills; leadership skills; excellent organization and technical skills; as well as good decision‑making skills
  • Ability to work both independently/unsupervised and in a team‑oriented environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

  • Permanent, Full‑Time / 100% / 75 hours bi‑weekly
  • Shift work required and weekends & holidays

Compensation and Benefits

Hourly rate: $40.15 - $51.37
