This position is responsible for daily maintenance functions of Parkland, associated City owned property, and the cleaning of related Parks Facilities.

Job Description
  • Assist in planting and maintenance of shrubs and flower beds
  • Perform parks grass cutting and maintenance, including litter collection and waste container servicing
  • Maintain washroom, park furniture, shelter facilities and all other buildings located on city park locations
  • Collect fees (including trailer sites, boat docking and launch locations, etc.) and issue receipts
  • Perform tree maintenance and planting
  • Perform maintenance of sportsfields (including user group preparation)
  • Operate machinery and equipment related to grounds maintenance functions
  • Assist in playground equipment maintenance and inspections
  • Patrol and monitor parks for vandalism and secure public facilities nightly
  • Perform winter snow and ice control functions as required
  • Assist with recreation trail inspection and maintenance functions
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
Skills/Education Required
  • Secondary School diploma with additional education related to facility maintenance
  • Experience in grounds maintenance with emphasis on horticulture, landscape construction, sportsfield and parks maintenance
  • Demonstrated knowledge of workplace Health and Safety and WHMIS
  • Demonstrated ability to operate hand tools, various motorized equipment, combined with a working knowledge of equipment preventative maintenance
  • Demonstrated professional and ethical responsibility to protect privacy, use confidential information appropriately, treat sensitive situations with appropriate degree of tact and discretion
  • Effective oral communication and strong interpersonal skills to deal with members of the public, council and all levels of staff
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative consistently with commitment to quality improvement, sharing process improvement initiatives with management
  • Demonstrated time-management skills with the ability to prioritize workloads and meet deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy
  • Ability to work independently or as an effective member of a team
  • Good analytical and problem solving skills related to area of expertise
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office, the internet, and any other related software
  • Possess and maintain a valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s Licence
  • Upon a conditional offer of employment, a Criminal Record Check
