Case Management
- Review, and prepare pleadings, correspondence, and other legal documents.
- Manage and organize case files, ensuring deadlines are tracked and met.
- Assist with document disclosure and production in accordance with BC Supreme Court Civil Rules.
Client Support
- Communicate with clients to obtain information, provide updates, and coordinate next steps.
- Draft client correspondence and maintain professional and confidential client relationships.
Legal Research
- Conduct research using CanLII, Westlaw, and other resources to support lawyers’ cases.
- Summarize findings and prepare legal memoranda as required.
Court & Registry Work
- File documents with the BC Court Services Online and coordinate service of documents.
- Prepare trial binders, books of authorities, and assist with hearing/trial preparation.
Administrative Duties
- Manage calendars, schedule meetings, and maintain organized filing systems (physical and electronic).
- Liaise with external stakeholders, including opposing counsel, experts, and court clerks.
Qualifications
- Paralegal Diploma/Certificate from an accredited institution or equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Minimum 3–8 years of paralegal experience in a BC law firm (litigation, real estate, corporate, or other practice area).
- In-depth knowledge of BC court rules, procedures, and filing requirements.
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and legal practice management software (e.g., Clio, PC Law, or equivalent).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and time-management abilities with a high attention to detail.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively under deadlines.
