Just 2 hours from Sydney, NS, and a 5-hour drive from Halifax, the resort has been welcoming guests to Cape Breton, Nova Scotia since July 1940.

We are seeking a detail-oriented Maintenance Worker with specialized experience in painting and finishing. This role is vital for maintaining the visual charm and structural integrity of our hotel and golf course. The ideal candidate takes pride in a flawless finish and understands how to work efficiently in a high‑end resort environment. If you are passionate about providing world‑class guest service and thrive in a fast‑paced, scenic environment, we offer the unique opportunity to live, work, and grow within Canada’s largest multi‑course golf operator. We are seeking committed, enthusiastic team members ready to contribute to another successful season of memorable experiences for our guests.

What we offer:
  • Competitive wages
  • Staff golf at Cape Breton Highlands Links, subsidized staff accommodations, staff discounts on branded merchandise and select local attractions

Essential duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Perform professional‑grade interior and exterior painting, including surface preparation (sanding, scraping, caulking, and priming).
  • Execute wood staining and sealing for decks, railings, and historic cedar shingles.
  • Manage drywall repairs, including patching, taping, and texturing.
  • Ensure all paint supplies are stored safely and brushes/equipment are meticulously maintained.

  • Monitor and perform basic preventative maintenance on heating and ventilation systems. Assist with pool and hot tub chemistry and filtration maintenance.
  • Replace light fixtures, ballasts, switches, and outlets.
  • Conduct regular inspections of the property’s exterior to identify areas requiring touch‑ups before they become larger issues.
  • Pressure wash walkways, decks, and siding as part of seasonal "freshening" programs.
  • Conduct regular inspections of smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, and emergency lighting.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to "Guest Service Calls" for in‑room issues, ensuring a friendly and non‑intrusive presence.
  • Complying with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and GolfNorth Health & Safety program.
Qualifications:
  • 2+ years of professional painting experience (commercial or residential) and 1+ years of general maintenance experience.
  • Mastery of various painting techniques (brush, roller, and spray) and knowledge of which products to use for different surfaces (wood, metal, drywall).
  • A "sharp eye" for color matching and ensuring clean lines/tidy workspaces.
  • Ability to climb ladders, work in crawl spaces, and lift up to 50 lbs. You must be comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.
