Qualifications

PeaceHealth is seeking an Orthopedic Technician for a Full Time, 1.00 FTE, Day position. The salary range for this job opening at PeaceHealth is $25.49 – $38.18. The hiring rate is dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to education, training, work experience, terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement, seniority, etc.

Job Summary

Responsible for applying and removing orthopedic appliances including casts, splints and braces. Educate patients on proper care and application of appliances.

Essential Functions
  • Coordinates and schedules surgery procedures with physicians, hospital surgery scheduling, managed care, and patient.
  • Applies and removes orthopedic appliances including casts, splints, and braces.
  • Educates patient on proper care and application.
  • Evaluates patients who present problems with casts or splints. Makes appropriate modifications or adjustments.
  • May assist physician with pin removal, incision and drainage, setting fractures, joint injections, and other procedures as required and within scope.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education
  • High School Diploma Preferred: or equivalent
Experience
  • Minimum of 2 years Preferred: Cast room experience and
  • Preferred: Knowledge of sterile technique and of orthopedic supplies
Credentials
  • Required: Upon Hire Basic Life Support and
  • Preferred: National Board for the Certification of Orthopedic Technologists
Skills
  • Experience with relevant PC applications required including basic skills with MS Office applications. (Required)
  • Ability to use office equipment and phone systems. (Required)
Working Conditions

Lifting

  • Patient handling no greater than 35 lbs. without the use of assistive equipment and/or devices (NIOSH).
  • Ability to move around area with occasional sitting.
  • Fine motor skills to be able to grasp and control medical equipment (i.e. stretchers, wheelchairs, etc.).
  • Frequent bending/ kneeling/ squatting/ stooping/ reaching/ grasping.
  • Lift/Carry: Occasionally up to 25 lbs.
  • Push/Pull: Occasionally up to 50 lbs. force.
Environmental Conditions
  • Exposure to biohazard, body fluids and airborne particles.
  • Time spent on site in medical/hospital setting.
Mental/Visual
  • Vision and hearing required within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).
  • Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
