Overview
Role Overview: As an Optical Engineer, your role will be crucial in supporting the design, integration, and testing of state-of-the-art optical systems. This position will involve hands-on tasks such as assembling, calibrating, and inspecting optical components, directly impacting the product development process. You’ll have the opportunity to learn from experienced engineers and grow in a collaborative environment. While having a background in electronics is useful, the main focus of this position will be on optical systems and how they integrate with larger systems.
Responsibilities
- Prototype & system build – assemble sub-assemblies, integrate full camera systems, characterize performance, and troubleshoot issues.
- Test development & data analysis – design / implement test rigs and procedures, benchmark performance models, collect / analyze data, and present findings.
- System verification – confirm mechanical integrity, optical alignment, and overall performance against specifications.
- Process refinement – partner with Manufacturing / NPI engineers to optimize build and test processes for subsystems and full systems.
- Operational support – manage orders, maintain lab / office safety, coordinate instrument shipping, and travel domestically or internationally as needed.
- Reporting & communication – deliver weekly progress summaries, support clinical testing, and interface with customers.
Lab & Optical Care
- Maintain and calibrate all lab equipment used for optical assembly and testing.
- Inspect, clean, and handle optics with precision to keep all surfaces contaminant-free.
- Diagnose and resolve technical issues in optical systems; flag component shortages and trigger re-orders.
- Work alongside senior engineers and industry leaders.
- Receive hands-on training in optical-system assembly, integration, and cutting-edge medical-imaging technologies.
Required Skills & Attributes
- Strong laboratory skills and enthusiasm for hands-on experimentation.
- Solid grasp of mechanical systems; logical, analytical, and creative problem-solving ability
