Position Overview

To be successful in this role, you’ll safely unload / load trucks and railcars with hot asphalt and help ensure the safe and efficient operation of the asphalt terminal, including the production of quality asphalt products.

Responsibilities include :

  • Starting up, operating, and shutting down the boiler safely
  • Routine inspections on equipment for safe and efficient operation
  • Performing boiler feedwater and cooling water tests
  • Communicating daily activities with the Chief Engineer and updating logs
  • Maintaining accurate maintenance records and work orders
  • Handling responsibilities like customer service, monitoring efficiencies, using truck scales, writing work permits, and assisting with asphalt orders
  • Loading / unloading trucks / railcars with hot asphalt
  • Operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting terminal systems
  • General maintenance, cleaning, housekeeping, and snow removal
  • Requirements :

  • Minimum 5th class power engineering (4th class an asset, 4th class certificate required in Winnipeg)
  • Experience with transload or asphalt terminals is a strong asset
  • Knowledge of Safe Work Permits and LOTO
  • Mechanically inclined
  • Commitment to safe work practices
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Willingness to learn about emulsion production, quality control, and product understanding
  • Additional assets include :

  • Understanding P&ID’s and basic flows
  • Process experience in a plant setting
  • Experience in petrochemical or industrial environments
  • Railroad experience
  • Physical and other requirements :

  • Work at heights, lift 50 lbs, walk on uneven terrain, work outside in all weather, wear SCBA respirator
  • Clear criminal background check, drug screen, medical exam, and pass site-specific tests
