What will you be doing!
- Identifying objects, actions, and events: identify information by categorizing, estimating, recognizing differences or similarities, and detecting changes in circumstances or events.
- Evaluating information to determine compliance with standards: use relevant information and individual judgment to determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, or standards.
- Analyzing data or information, identifying the underlying principles, reasons, or facts of information by breaking down information or data into separate parts.
- Utilizing risk management principles and think outside the box in order to problem solve.
- Reviewing contractor plans and provide meaningful feedback.
- Interacting with managers and directors to solicit advice and to promote implementation strategies.
- Other duties as assigned by your manager.
What we are looking for:
- Education
- College diploma or university degree within an OSH, IH or a combined field from an accredited
Canadian or international program, or an extensive set of OSH and IH training and certification across
various topics. - Possess, or must have ability to possess, minimum professional credentials as a CRST and NCSO. CRSP
or equivalent recognized designations like the CSP or CMIOSH is additionally preferred. As is being able
to possess an ROHT.
- Experience
- At least 4-6 years of OSH and IH experience in an equivalent role within complex nuclear, research &
technology, heavy construction project, heavy manufacturing, industrial processing, mining, oil & gas,
or other civil or environmental remediation experience. Experience within a radiation safety and/or
protection setting is an asset but not required.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Technical & practical OSH and IH knowledge, including competent person and/or train-the trainer
credentials, on various topics such as hazardous energy control, hoisting & rigging, ground disturbance,
boring/digging/coring, fall protection, excavation and trenching, marine safety, heavy equipment
operation, emergency & hazardous material release response, electrical safety, confined space. - Knowledge industrial hygiene knowledge in areas such as Asbestos, Silica, hazardous products/WHMIS,
noise, heat-stress, confined space entry, and personal protective equipment and clothing (PPE&C). - Knowledge of air sampling methodologies to sample various particular, VOC, and other hazards.
- Practical knowledge in asbestos abatement, confined space entry and air monitoring practices.
- Detailed practical knowledge of Canadian provincial and federal OSH legislative requirements,
compliance frameworks, standards and industry best practices. - Completion of OSH risk registers, hazard assessments, JHA/JSA, and working with behavior based
safety programs. - Working knowledge of root-cause analysis principals and tools such as Taproot, Apparent Cause
Analysis (ACA), Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and other safety analytical tools. - Ability to maintain and grow safety knowledge including industry best practices and pending changes in
legislation. - Understanding of core Human Performance principle.
- Security Clearance Eligibility Required
- Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on
Working Conditions:
- Physically fit, able to be physically active (standing, walking) for up to 12 hrs a day. Able to manage
stairs, ladders and other egress equipment to enter all site and building areas including confined space. - Able to use personal protective equipment including a respirator.
- Extensive walking on uneven terrain in all weather conditions.
- Must be willing and able to wear a respirator and other PPE&C as required.
- Combination of office based and field level work, including work outdoors in inclement weather and
temperatures ranging from +30C to -40C. - Prolonged periods of sedentary office work when preparing reports and other documents.
- Operational and decommissioning environments - i.e.; laboratories, workshops, confined spaces, heights, etc., laboratory settings, offices, construction sites, open fields, and possible wildlife exposure.
- May be required to perform overtime.
- Work in both radiologically active and non-active environments.
- This role may have occasion travel.
- Field work is a cornerstone activity in this role.

CNL’s Gentilly-1 Prototype Reactor (shut down and partially decommissioned) is located on the Gentilly Nuclear Generating Station site on the south shore of the St. Lawrence River in Bécancour, Quebec, 100 km northeast of Montreal.
