Overview
The company, a national IT consulting company, is seeking a part-time Network / Communications Room Design consultant to provide assessment and design services on an as required basis for network projects at facilities throughout the Greater Vancouver area.
Responsibilities
- Provide a Communications room space and infrastructure design.
- The scope of the detailed design will include :
- Space plan of Communications room.
- Rack equipment elevation detail.
- Paths from the Communications room to clinical space.
- Communications room physical capacity.
- Communications room power.
- Communications UPS power.
- Communications room heating / cooling / ventilation.
- Responsible for instructions for Electrical Contractor as it relates to the Communications Room.
- Coordinate with Architect, Mechanical and Electrical Consultants, and with TELUS for WAN (fibre, copper) services.
- Architectural – Coordinate with the Architect on the location, size and critical dimensions of Communications rooms and on their construction and wall and floor finishes.
- Mechanical – Coordinate with the Mechanical Engineer on the environmental control and preferred cooling solutions and the cooling size for the Communications room.
- Electrical – Coordinate with the Electrical Engineer on the electrical services for the Communications rooms (convenience outlets and rack power, UPS and lighting), and the location of the TELUS WAN conduit.
- Participate in site visit and meetings with all associated trades.
- As it relates to the communications infrastructure, provide technical guidance / oversight to the trades with the work of Div. 27 and Div. 26, so that they are not duplicated.
- Provide guidance and assist with the coordination of installation schedules of sub-trades and when to install the items affecting the communications infrastructure.
- The network design will incorporate the following requirements :
- Capable of meeting the current and future operational and clinical needs of the organizations.
- Provide the required functionality, reliability and serviceability of facilities, systems and components.
- Minimum lifecycle cost of ownership, including design, construction, operating and maintenance costs.
- Provide flexibility for growth and change.
- Resource efficiency (energy, materials).
- Safety and security.
- Provide value for the related Facilities and infrastructure investment.
- For each project, the following deliverables will be provided in electronic format :
- CAD drawing and As-built upon completion.
- Identify additional cabling for wireless access points based on the Grid Design approach.
- Recommendations for Communications room changes.
Requirements
- A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a university degree or technical diploma in a program such as Communications technology, plus appropriate vendor network certification(s), and a minimum of five (5) years of recent data networking experience.
- 5+ years recent experience providing Network / Communications room site assessment / design services, for large, complex, multi-site organizations.
- Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) certified.
- In-depth experience with enterprise grade Cisco and HP network hardware.
- In-depth knowledge / experience with current network standards and industry best practices required to implement reliable, high-density wired and wireless networks.
- Good communication and client / vendor interaction skills.
- Works effectively under time pressures to meet deadlines.
