Responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY

The responsible NDT level III position is primarily accountable for ensuring that all aluminum cast product is NDT inspected in accordance with customer specifications and within corporate and aerospace quality standards. The level III candidate shall have technical responsibility and authority for radiography (film & digital) operations at Laval, including the certification of all qualified NDT personnel (Level I and II Xray).

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

TYPICAL TASKS

  • Ensures that NDT personnel have the correct material, tools and equipment to effectively accomplish their work activities and schedules.
  • Verifies that all NDT tools and equipment are calibrated and approved for on-going production use
  • Acts as lead process owner for NDT operations, conducts customer flow down of requirements.
  • Provides training, communication, and direction with Activity Instructions and Product Criteria (based on flow down of customer requirements). Ensures all NDT personnel execute work instructions and activities to full compliance.
  • Provides guidance to NDT personnel.
  • Ensures that NDT personnel understand requirements as well as their job duties and responsibilities.
  • Ensures NDT personnel perform inspection to the appropriate accept/reject criteria.
  • In accordance with NAS-410, ensures that all NDT personnel receive appropriate formal training & on the job training to achieve qualification for examinations & certification.
  • Acts as NDT technical liaison with customers and corporate.
  • Implements improvement changes and measures that assure that products meet quality norms.
  • Actively participates in problem solving, cost reduction, and waste reduction.
  • Audits the performance of Level I’s and Level II’s and takes part in the preparation and execution of their reviews.
  • Assures that the calibration of the tools used in NDT are calibrated in a timely matter. Reviews and approves calibration certificates.
  • Responsible for managing yearly NADCAP NDT Audits as well as Customer & internal NDT audits.
  • Develops x-ray techniques, performs drawing and specification reviews for NDT inspection compliance.
  • Implements Howmet policies and procedures, and monitors adherence to ethics program.
  • Avoids conflict of interest situations.
  • Ensures that management trust is not violated.
  • Acts in the company best interest.
  • Supports client-centered delivery performance results.
  • Displays a positive, willing to work attitude, as someone who can be counted on.
  • Learns and understands company EHS rules and regulations.
  • Wears protective equipment as required.
  • Follows all safety rules.

ENVIRONMENT, HEALTH & SAFETY (EHS)

  • Respects Environment, Health & Safety programs of the company.
  • Responsible Radiation Safety Officer and Manages the Radiation Safety Program (Health Canada).
Qualifications

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Speaks fluently both French and English
  • Demonstrates superior communication skills – written and oral
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all areas of other departments
  • Understanding of origin of metallurgical defects, an asset
  • Interpretation of defects on castings, an asset

DUCATION REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s or Technical diploma in engineering / science field, will be considered an asset.
  • Minimum requirement, high school diploma.

PROFESSIONAL DESIGNATION

  • RT level III certification preferably NAS 410.
  • An asset to be certified CGSB/ASNT.

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in NDT methods and manufacturing environment as a Level 3.
  • Aluminum casting experience will be an asset.
