Purpose of Role

Weir Marine Engineering needs a consultant to support the Department of National Defence (DND) in building an efficient Master Data Management (MDM) solution. The role is remote, based in Ottawa, Toronto, Halifax, or Montreal. Initial contract until 31 March 2026, renewable annually.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design architecture and metadata models to meet client needs and ensure scalability.
  • Develop MDM repositories, assess data sources, design integration strategies, and implement MS Purview and cloud data warehousing.
  • Establish data governance, data models, glossaries, audit mechanisms, and quality frameworks aligned with DND policy.
  • Coach stakeholders on MDM best practices, manage security/privacy requirements, mitigate risks, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Maintain zero‑harm safety culture and demonstrate full commitment to safety policies.
Job Knowledge / Education and Qualifications
  • Ten plus years of technical experience in IT project environments for large enterprise or government.
  • Technical skills: MS Purview, MS Power BI, MS Fabric (asset), Python scripting (asset).
  • Data expertise: data warehouse concepts, data lakes, data marts, cloud DB, integration patterns, analytics, data governance, metadata, lineage, MDM, classification, quality; DND/CAF experience (asset).
  • Soft skills: dynamic, mentor, fast learner, strong communication, organized, motivated.
  • Canadian citizenship, 10 years living in Canada, no gaps > 6 months, required for government security clearance to Secret.
