Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to lead and manage the clinical photography services at Newcastle Hospitals. This role is ideal for a qualified Clinical Photographer with strong leadership experience to enhance our medical photography services and inspire others to perform at their best. NO AGENCIES PLEASE

Main duties
  • Leading a team of skilled clinical photographers, technicians and administration staff to provide accurate, ethical and timely visual documentation for clinical, diagnostic, educational and legal purposes.
  • Provide an out of hours on-call service (evenings & weekends) across hospital sites.
  • Manage the development and expansion of the medical photography department to meet Trust-wide needs.
  • Maintain an up-to-date Continuing Professional Development (CPD) portfolio to satisfy the requirements of the Health Professions Council and Institute of Medical Illustrators.
  • Provide images for use in assessments, treatments, or social care of the patient.
  • Implement Departmental, National, Local and Trust policies and directorates which affect the service to the Trust.
  • Assist the Clinical Board and departmental management team with all aspects of their area(s) of responsibility and take the lead in specific delegated areas.

Qualifications & Education Essential

  • BSC in Medical Illustration
  • Registration as a Medical Illustrator Practitioner

Desirable

  • Leadership qualification

Knowledge & Experience Essential

  • Training plus extensive post-graduate experience to MSc level
  • Confidentiality, consent, and data protection in medical photography
  • Competence with all SLR camera formats
  • Information technology and multimedia proficiency
  • Wide range of computer skills and software programs
  • Experience of working in a photographic environment
  • Evidence of continuous professional development

Desirable

  • Training and experience in research and audit
  • Mentoring and training junior staff
  • Experience working independently in outlying clinics
  • Experience running a Trust-wide Medical Photography service

Skills & Abilities Essential

  • Proven leadership and interpersonal/communication skills with experience of change management and practice development
  • Ability to work outside the photographic studio
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills to manage change and service improvement
